Aplin Wins Best Managed Award to Become Platinum Club Member

Canada’s Best Managed Companies is the country’s leading business awards program, recognizing excellence in private Canadian-owned companies. Each year, hundreds of entrepreneurial companies undergo a rigorous application process, but only the best are awarded with this prestigious designation.

While it’s always an honour to stand alongside such a talented group of truly inspirational Canadian businesses, this year’s win is particularly special, as Aplin successfully achieved Platinum membership status—the highest achievement awarded by the program—having won for the 7th consecutive year.

How does it work?

Since its 1993 inception, Canada’s Best Managed Companies has become the country’s leading business awards program, recognizing excellence in Canadian owned and managed companies with revenues over $15 million.

Qualification into the program entails four key criteria:

  • Business strategy
  • Capability to deliver service/product (innovation, leadership)
  • Commitment to running a successful business
  • Financials (private SMBs with sales over $15M)

The judging panel is comprised of members from each of the program sponsors and rotating special guest representatives. What makes the Canada’s Best Managed Companies program unique is the fact that it celebrates Canadian-owned and managed companies who’ve shown a proven track record of overall business performance and sustained growth. This award is judged on the efforts of the entire organization, looking beyond financial performance.

What are the benefits of the program?

Winning isn’t everything. There are plenty of benefits to simply participating in the Best Managed awards program, not the least of which are coaching from Deloitte and CIBC professionals, and detailed self-analysis of your business focused on strategic and operational issues. The program shines a light on current best practices, and helps businesses identify areas for improvement.

Winning may not be everything — but it, too, has its benefits. Prior to successfully attaining Platinum status, Aplin achieved Gold Member status. A few benefits of the program the I value include:

  • Use of the Canada’s Best Managed Companies designation
  • Access to networking opportunities with other exceptional business leaders
  • Strengthened ability to attract and retain top talent
  • The annual gala celebration in Toronto
  • Professional development at the Canada’s Best Managed Companies symposium featuring the latest in business leadership and cutting-edge thinking

Why is Platinum membership important?

For private businesses in Canada, the Best Managed designation is associated with quality, trust and reliability of your brand and your company. In my experience, employees really value it from an internal perspective; it’s really great for moral. Also, it’s a great way to attract a high calibre of new employees. Gaining entrance into the program is extremely competitive, and we’re truly honoured to be part of such a great group of Canadian businesses.

Achieving Platinum Membership status pushes us to continue to evolve and grow our businesses. This year, we are most excited about the application of new technologies to talent acquisition and staffing in general. Our core business system is implementing AI (artificial intelligence) tools to apply to staffing, which is a first for Aplin. Essentially, it’s a better search engine, offering recruiters the ability to quickly and accurately search for potential applicants in real-time. Stay tuned for more information about this and other upcoming announcements from the David Aplin Group!

I’d like to take a moment to congratulate all the finalists in this year’s Best Managed Program, and we look forward to celebrating all of Canada’s business achievements at the awards gala in April.
