Join a growing and forward-thinking organization in a key in-house Legal Counsel role where your expertise in Aboriginal law and self-government will directly contribute to major organizational initiatives.

Reporting to senior leadership and working closely with Council, you will provide trusted legal advice, help advance self-government implementation, oversee external legal counsel, and play an important role in supporting development, housing, and organizational growth.

Responsibilities
  • Provide confident, practical legal opinions and advice to senior leadership, Council, committees, and internal stakeholders
  • Advise on matters relating to Aboriginal law, self-government, and self-government implementation
  • Identify legal and operational issues, assess risk, and provide clear recommendations to help move initiatives forward
  • Manage the organization's broader self-government implementation plan by navigating legal and operational considerations
  • Support significant organizational initiatives involving development, housing, administration, and continued growth
Qualifications
  • Be called to the BC Bar and be in good standing
  • Ideal 7 - 10 years of post call experience
  • Extensive experience with Aboriginal Law
  • Strong understanding of self-government structures and implementation processes
  • Highly organized with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
