Safety Specialist

Aplin has partnered with a well-established industrial services company in the Edmonton area to recruit a Safety Advisor / Specialist. This is an excellent opportunity for a safety professional who enjoys working alongside operations teams, supporting field personnel, and driving continuous improvement across multiple project sites.

The successful candidate will play an integral role in supporting the organization's health, safety, and environmental initiatives while helping ensure compliance with industry regulations and company standards. This position requires regular travel throughout Western Canada.

Responsibilities

• Provide health and safety support to field operations, shop personnel, and leadership teams.
• Conduct site visits, inspections, hazard assessments, and workplace audits.
• Facilitate toolbox talks, safety meetings, orientations, and other training initiatives.
• Investigate workplace incidents, identify root causes, and assist with corrective action planning.
• Assist with disability management, WCB claims, and return-to-work coordination.
• Maintain and enhance health, safety, and environmental policies, procedures, and programs.
• Coordinate COR activities, internal audits, and ongoing compliance efforts.
• Administer contractor prequalification requirements through platforms such as ComplyWorks, ISNetworld, Avetta, or similar systems.
• Monitor safety performance, maintain accurate documentation, and prepare reports as required.
• Ensure compliance with provincial health and safety legislation and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Participate in Joint Health & Safety Committee activities and emergency response planning.

Qualifications
Required

• Minimum three years of experience in an occupational health and safety role within an industrial, construction, manufacturing, mechanical, or related environment.
• NCSO designation or actively working toward completion.
• Sound understanding of occupational health and safety legislation, incident investigation processes, WCB administration, and return-to-work programs.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence both field employees and leadership.
• Valid Class 5 driver's licence and ability to travel to project locations throughout Western Canada.
• Strong organizational skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Preferred

• Previous experience working in construction, industrial contracting, manufacturing, mechanical trades, or oil and gas.
• Familiarity with COR certification requirements and audit preparation.
• Experience using contractor compliance platforms such as ComplyWorks, ISNetworld, Avetta, or equivalent systems.
• CRSP, CRST, or another recognized safety designation is considered an asset.
