Aplin has partnered with a leading global manufacturer of industrial HVAC and engineered equipment to recruit a Senior Design Supervisor for its Contract Engineering team based in Dorval, Quebec.
This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys mentoring others, improving engineering quality, and supporting manufacturing operations. Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Team Leader, you will provide day-to-day leadership to a team of mechanical designers while ensuring the accuracy, quality, and consistency of all engineering documentation released to production.

The Opportunity
As the Senior Design Supervisor, you will oversee the daily activities of the Contract Engineering Design team, ensuring engineering deliverables are completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule. You will play a key role in maintaining engineering standards, supporting manufacturing operations, mentoring design personnel, and driving continuous improvements throughout the engineering process.
Working closely with Manufacturing, Production, Purchasing, Quality, Sales, and Project Management, you will help ensure engineering documentation supports efficient fabrication, assembly, and product quality.

Key Responsibilities
- Supervise the day-to-day activities of the Mechanical Design team.
- Assign and prioritize engineering workloads to meet production schedules and project deadlines.
- Review, approve, stamp, and sign production drawings prior to release.
- Ensure manufacturing drawings are complete, accurate, and suitable for fabrication and assembly.
- Verify bills of material, dimensional accuracy, tolerances, weld symbols, fabrication details, and assembly documentation.
- Review and implement engineering change requests (ECRs) and engineering change orders (ECOs).
- Maintain engineering documentation quality while minimizing manufacturing issues resulting from design errors.
- Support Manufacturing and Production by providing technical guidance and engineering assistance.
- Maintain engineering CAD standards utilizing Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault.
- Train, mentor, and develop junior and intermediate designers while promoting engineering best practices.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on engineering efficiency, documentation quality, and manufacturing effectiveness.
- Identify opportunities for design standardization, modularization, and workflow improvements to reduce engineering effort and improve product consistency.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT), or eligible for registration with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec, is considered an asset.
- Approximately 5–8 years of mechanical design experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience designing industrial equipment, HVAC systems, pressure vessels, custom machinery, or other engineered products is highly desirable.
- Previous experience supporting manufacturing operations and production engineering activities.
- Prior experience leading projects or mentoring junior engineers is considered an asset.
- Advanced proficiency with Autodesk Inventor or comparable 3D CAD software.
- Experience with Autodesk Vault or similar engineering document management systems.
- Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
- Engineering calculations and finite element analysis (FEA).
- Bill of Material (BOM) development and configuration management.
- ERP/MRP systems knowledge.
- Working knowledge of ASME, CSA, ASHRAE, ISO, and other applicable engineering standards.
- Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills.
- A collaborative leadership style with a passion for mentoring and developing others.

- Strong communication and cross-functional relationship-building skills.
