Aplin has partnered with our client in Edmonton to hire a Labor Relations Manager to join a major industrial construction project. This is an immediate-term opportunity through December 31, 2027, with the potential for extension based on project requirements.

Reporting to the Project Director and Construction Director, the Industrial Relations Manager will serve as the primary advisor on all labor and industrial relations matters. This role is responsible for building strong relationships with project leadership, contractors, unions, employees, and regulatory agencies while ensuring compliance with collective agreements, Project Labor Agreements (PLAs), labor legislation, and company policies.

The successful candidate will provide strategic guidance on labor relations, workforce planning, contractor compliance, and dispute resolution to support a productive, safe, and stable project environment.

Compensation
This role offers competitive compensation ranging from $100.00 to $110.00 per hour depending on experience. 

Responsibilities
  • Administer and ensure compliance with Collective Agreements, Project Labor Agreements (PLAs), labor legislation, and company policies.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between project management, contractors, unions, employees, and regulatory agencies.
  • Lead or support collective bargaining, labor negotiations, mediations, and dispute resolution activities.
  • Manage grievances, workplace investigations, and labor relations issues while minimizing project disruptions.
  • Advise project leadership on labor risks, workforce planning, contractor compliance, and workforce strategies.
  • Develop and implement labor relations policies, procedures, and workforce engagement initiatives.
  • Monitor labor market trends, wage data, and workforce availability to support project planning.
  • Prepare labor relations reports, maintain accurate documentation, and provide recommendations to senior leadership.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 20 years of experience in heavy industrial construction.
  • Minimum 10 years of labor relations experience supporting construction trade unions, contractors, or major industrial projects.
  • Proven experience administering Collective Agreements, Project Labour Agreements (PLAs), grievance procedures, and labor negotiations.
  • Strong knowledge of labor legislation, employment standards, construction workforce practices, and contractor management.
  • Exceptional negotiation, mediation, conflict resolution, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Postsecondary education in Industrial Relations, Human Resources, Business Administration, Law, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Professional HR, Labor Relations, or Industrial Relations designation is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to prepare reports, presentations, and workforce analytics.
