Position Overview

The Electrical Technologist II will support the design and implementation of electrical systems for engineered equipment, including chillers and heat pump systems. This role focuses on electrical design, component selection, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure product performance, safety, and compliance with applicable standards.

Reporting to: Electrical Engineering Manager
Key Responsibilities
- Design electrical systems, including high voltage distribution, medium voltage, and low DC systems, in accordance with internal and industry standards
- Select and validate electrical components (passive and active) to support system design requirements
- Specify supporting electrical components such as cabinets, junction boxes, busbars, and conduits
- Size and select protective equipment (motor starters, breakers, fuses) and cabling based on engineering calculations
- Collaborate with production teams and electricians during prototype builds to provide guidance and capture feedback for design improvements
- Interface with suppliers and support procurement to ensure components meet technical specifications
- Work closely with mechanical and controls teams to ensure integrated product design
- Maintain current knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and emerging technologies
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- 3+ years of relevant experience in electrical design or engineering support
- Advanced degrees or certifications are considered an asset
- Proficiency with CAD tools such as AutoCAD Electrical or similar for developing wiring diagrams, layouts, and design documentation
- Strong understanding of electrical components, systems, and equipment
- Familiarity with major electrical equipment manufacturers (e.g., Siemens, ABB, Eaton, Schneider)
- Knowledge of grounding principles and electrical safety standards
- Understanding of national and local electrical codes
- Exposure to control systems and instrumentation is an asset
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Strong communication skills
- Effective problem-solving and analytical ability
- Ability to manage deadlines and prioritize tasks
- Comfortable working both independently and within a team
- High attention to detail
- English language proficiency (written and spoken) is required
- French language skills are considered an asset
- Competitive salary range aligned with experience (approximately $80,000 – $94,000)
