Our client is seeking a Labour & Employment Associate to join their Vancouver office. This is a strong opportunity for a junior to mid-level lawyer looking for hands-on mentorship, early client exposure, and a balanced mix of advisory and litigation work.

The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of labour and employment experience, though litigators looking to transition into employment law may also be considered.

About the Role

You will work closely with senior lawyers while also managing some files independently. The practice includes a mix of employer-side and plaintiff-side employment matters, with most files involving advisory work, negotiations, and settlements, along with some litigation.
Responsibilities will include:
  • Drafting demand letters, pleadings, applications, and settlement documents
  • Supporting partners on litigation files
  • Managing employment files from intake through resolution
  • Conducting client consultations and providing practical employment law advice
  • Representing clients in mediations, discoveries, applications, hearings, and tribunal matters
  • Assisting with matters before the Human Rights Tribunal, Employment Standards, and other workplace-related forums
What We’re Looking For
  • 2+ years of labour and employment experience
  • Called to the BC Bar, or eligible and willing to be called in BC
  • Comfortable with advisory work, litigation, and client-facing responsibilities
  • Strong drafting, organization, and communication skills
  • Interest in both employer-side and plaintiff-side employment law
  • Comfortable working primarily in-office
  • Comfortable with a 1200 billable hour target
  • Mandarin language skills are an asset
Litigators with a strong interest in employment law may also be considered.

Why This Role
  • Strong mentorship from senior lawyers
  • Early client interaction and file responsibility
  • Balanced advisory and litigation practice
  • Exposure to both employer-side and plaintiff-side matters
  • Lower billable target than many comparable firms
  • Opportunity to build a practice and client base over time
Compensation
The expected salary range is $100,000 to $140,000, depending on experience and qualifications. The role also includes a health spending account and bonus potential for exceeding billing targets.
