Aplin has partnered with a leading global engineering and consulting organization to recruit an experienced CAD Designer for its growing Ports and Marine Terminals team in Vancouver.

This position offers the opportunity to support complex marine infrastructure projects throughout British Columbia while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, planners and technologists. Projects encompass a wide range of public- and private-sector facilities, including container and dry bulk terminals, wharves, jetties, ferry terminals, marinas, coastal structures, cruise terminals, naval facilities, and oil and gas infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of structural and civil engineering principles, along with advanced technical proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform technical design and drafting assignments under the direction of project managers and project engineers.
  • Transform preliminary concepts, sketches and engineering information into detailed designs and construction drawings.
  • Produce and revise drawings using AutoCAD, Civil 3D and other relevant design software.
  • Ensure drawings comply with established CAD standards, project requirements and applicable design guidelines.
  • Follow quality assurance and quality control procedures throughout the drawing, planning and production process.
  • Read and interpret engineering plans, specifications and other technical documentation.
  • Participate in team meetings, design reviews and collaborative project discussions.
  • Assist with estimating drafting requirements and timelines for project schedules.
  • Coordinate design information and findings with engineers, technologists and other project participants.
  • Manage multiple assignments while meeting project deadlines and quality expectations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Civil Engineering Technology diploma or an equivalent credential from an accredited post-secondary institution.
  • Minimum of five years of experience providing CAD design and drafting support for bridge, ports and marine, or transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing technical drawings within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Solid understanding of applicable design codes, standards and guidelines.
  • Strong understanding of civil and structural engineering concepts.
  • Experience supporting complex infrastructure projects would be an asset.
Technical Skills
  • Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud and Autodesk Forma.
  • Experience with Revit would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of AutoTURN would be considered an asset.
  • Strong mathematical and technical problem-solving abilities.
  • Understanding of CAD standards and engineering quality-control procedures.

Compensation
The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $72,300 to $104,800. Final compensation will be determined based on the successful candidate’s education, qualifications and relevant experience.

Working Conditions

This position is primarily based in an office environment and involves regular computer-based work. Occasional fieldwork may be required and could involve working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Regular travel is not anticipated.
