Our client is a growing public accounting firm that works closely with private companies, owner-managed businesses, and high-net-worth clients. As the firm continues to expand, they are looking to add an experienced Bookkeeping Manager to lead the bookkeeping function and support the continued development of the team.

This is a strong opportunity for someone from a public practice or client accounting services background who enjoys team leadership, client management, workflow oversight, and process improvement. The ideal candidate is organized, client-facing, supportive with staff, and comfortable taking ownership of a growing department.

About the Role
The Bookkeeping Manager will oversee day-to-day bookkeeping operations and lead a team of bookkeepers. This person will be responsible for managing workflow, reviewing more complex files, supporting staff, resolving escalated client matters, and ensuring deadlines and quality standards are consistently met.

The role also offers the opportunity to help improve internal processes and contribute to the continued growth of the bookkeeping function.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, coach, and support a team of bookkeepers
  • Oversee workflow, file assignments, deadlines, and client service delivery
  • Review complex bookkeeping files and completed work
  • Act as a senior point of contact for clients
  • Resolve escalated technical and client-service issues
  • Support staff development, training, and performance
  • Monitor team capacity, priorities, and workload
  • Ensure work is completed accurately, on time, and in line with firm standards
  • Coordinate with Accounting Managers and Partners
  • Improve internal processes, procedures, and quality-control practices
  • Support onboarding and retention within the department
Who You Are
  • 5+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, ideally within Canadian public practice
  • Experience working with multiple private-company or owner-managed business clients
  • Strong full-cycle bookkeeping and month-end experience
  • Experience reviewing files and resolving more complex bookkeeping issues
  • Previous leadership, supervisory, or team-lead experience
  • Strong client management and communication skills
  • Comfortable managing competing deadlines and priorities
  • Supportive, positive, and confident in providing feedback to staff
  • Comfortable working in a growing firm where processes may continue to evolve
  • Able to work independently and take ownership of the department
  • A CPA designation is not required.
Nice to Have
  • Experience in a small or mid-sized public practice firm
  • Experience leading a bookkeeping, cloud accounting, or client accounting services team
  • Exposure to year-end working papers and completed trial balances
  • Experience with payroll, GST, PST, and CRA filings
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage, Dext, Hubdoc, CaseWare, or similar platforms
  • Experience improving workflow, review, or quality-control processes
