Our client, a leading organization within the public sector, is seeking a Payroll & Accounting Analyst to join their Corporate Services Finance team on a 6-month contract with the potential for extension or full-time conversion in Edmonton, AB.
This is a key role supporting payroll accounting within an outsourced payroll environment, with responsibility for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of payroll-related financial processes. The organization is currently undergoing a systems transition from JDE to SAP SuccessFactors, creating an opportunity for a strong payroll and accounting professional to make an immediate impact in a dynamic and evolving environment.

- Prepare, review, and coordinate payroll remittances for approval and submission
- Validate payroll outputs from an external payroll provider for accuracy and completeness
- Maintain and update employee cost allocations and payroll distribution changes
- Reconcile payroll general ledger accounts including CPP, EI, income tax, and wages payable
- Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies and outstanding balances
- Prepare payroll-related journal entries and supporting documentation
- Reconcile CRA source deductions and payroll accounts
- Perform quarterly PIER analysis
- Support month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations and reporting
- Analyze payroll variances and provide insights to management
- Act as Finance liaison with outsourced payroll provider (EMS) and internal stakeholders
- Monitor legislative payroll changes and ensure updates are implemented
- Strengthen payroll controls, governance, and reconciliation processes
- Support SAP SuccessFactors implementation and assist with system integration issues
- Identify process improvements and support continuous improvement initiatives
- Provide ad hoc payroll and financial reporting support
- 3–7+ years of experience in payroll, accounting, or office/payroll management roles
- Strong experience with payroll processing, reconciliations, and general ledger accounting
- Comfortable working in an outsourced payroll environment
- Experience reviewing payroll outputs and resolving discrepancies
- Knowledge of CRA payroll requirements (T4s, remittances, EI, CPP, etc.)
- Experience with ERP systems such as JDE, SAP, or SuccessFactors considered an asset
- Strong Excel and financial systems skills
- High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to investigate issues, identify root causes, and implement solutions
- Strong communication skills with ability to work across Finance, HR, and external vendors
- CPA designation not required (asset only)
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines
