We are hiring a Fire Protection Engineer / Technical Specialist for a 24-month, on-site contract in Pickering, ON. This role supports a large, highly regulated safe storage and nuclear facility project and is focused on providing technical fire protection expertise across commissioning, operations, and maintenance activities.

This position is well suited to an experienced professional who is comfortable working in complex environments, interpreting codes and standards, and providing clear technical guidance while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

What You’ll Do
  • Provide technical evaluations, guidance, and problem-solving support related to fire protection systems, equipment, and programs
  • Support commissioning, operation, and maintenance activities within a regulated nuclear facility
  • Identify potential issues, risks, and improvement opportunities and initiate studies or investigations as required
  • Prepare clear, concise technical reports, assessments, and responses to internal and external requests
  • Review technical proposals from internal and external parties, recommend revisions, and provide written recommendations for approval
  • Prepare or support technical specifications for materials, services, and equipment and support procurement activities
  • Provide technical support during field installation and implementation
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with site licence conditions and applicable fire protection codes and standards
  • Provide expert advice on fire hazard assessments, fire response equipment lifecycle, and fire response PPE
  • Interpret and apply regulatory, licensing, provincial, and federal requirements related to fire protection
  • Support the development and update of fire protection standards, procedures, instructions, and guides
  • Assist with Fire Hazard Assessments, Fire Safe Shutdown Analysis, and postulated fire scenario response planning
  • Monitor changes in site risk related to equipment, staffing, training, or procedures and recommend mitigation measures
  • Liaise with site departments and external fire protection and emergency response organizations
  • Support regulatory correspondence and corrective action plans
What We’re Looking For
  • Strong technical knowledge of fire protection systems, engineering principles, and risk-based assessment
  • Experience with Fire Hazard Assessments and Fire Safe Shutdown Analysis in regulated environments
  • Working knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada and National Fire Code of Canada
  • Experience applying CSA N293, CSA N393, NFPA, and NFCC requirements
  • Ability to interpret and apply regulatory and licensing requirements in a nuclear or similarly regulated facility
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare technical reports and recommendations
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with engineering, operations, and regulatory teams
  • Completion of a four-year university degree in an appropriate engineering discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
