Tammy Boyko and Carlan Wilbon with Aplin  have an immediate remote contract opportunity for an experienced Scrum Master to join a government client based in Winnipeg. This role begins as a 12 month contract, with a strong potential to extend up to 24 months or longer.

The Scrum Master serves as a facilitator, coach, and leader for agile development teams, ensuring that Agile principles and practices are followed to deliver high-quality products and solutions. This role is instrumental in fostering a collaborative environment, removing obstacles, and promoting continuous improvement within the Scrum team. The Scrum Master works closely with the Product Owner and development team to optimize productivity, streamline processes, and deliver value to stakeholders. This position requires a blend of leadership, facilitation, coaching, and technical expertise to ensure that Agile principles and practices are embraced, and organizational objectives are achieved.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate Agile Processes: Guide the Scrum team in adopting Agile methodologies, practices, and principles. Facilitate Scrum ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Team Empowerment: Empower the development team to self-organize, make decisions, and achieve their objectives. Foster a collaborative and transparent environment to promote open communication and feedback.
  • Remove Obstacles: Identify and remove impediments or obstacles that hinder the team's progress. Collaborate with stakeholders to address issues, mitigate risks, and ensure timely delivery of sprint goals.
  • Coach and Mentor: Provide coaching, mentoring, and guidance to the Scrum team on Agile practices, roles, responsibilities, and principles. Encourage continuous improvement and foster a culture of learning and innovation.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the Product Owner to ensure product backlog refinement, prioritization, and alignment with business objectives. Facilitate communication between the development team, Product Owner, and other stakeholders.
  • Metrics and Reporting: Monitor and track team performance metrics, sprint velocity, and other key indicators. Provide regular updates and reports to stakeholders on progress, risks, and recommendations for improvement.
  • Conflict Resolution: Address conflicts and disagreements within the Scrum team in a constructive manner. Facilitate discussions and negotiations to reach consensus and maintain team harmony.
  • Continuous Improvement: Promote a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for process optimization, efficiency gains, and best practices adoption.
  • Support project/program managers in planning and tracking project activities using collaboration management tools.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field; Agile certifications such as Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or Certified Scrum Professional (CSP).
  • 10 years proven experience as a Scrum Master or Agile Coach, with a deep understanding of Agile methodologies, frameworks, and practices.
  • Strong facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and senior leadership.
  • Knowledge of software development processes, tools, and best practices. Experience with Agile tools such as JIRA, Confluence, or similar platforms is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail and a focus on delivering results.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities and requirements.
  • Strong political acumen.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • A team player with a track record for meeting deadlines and delivering high profile complex initiatives.
  • Servant-leader mindset with a passion for fostering collaboration and teamwork.
