Our client, a leader in their field, has partnered with Aplin on a pivotal and unique opportunity to grow their finance team. Based in Calgary, the Director of Finance will lead and build a team of accounting professionals, with responsibility for accounting for one of their most successful portfolios.

Reporting to the Divisional Vice President -Accounting, the Director of Finance is responsible for all reporting, accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and audits for the portfolio. This is an all-encompassing position on the finance team that will interface with management teams and executives across the company. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on financial manager with in-depth expertise in job costing and project accounting.

Responsibilities:
  • Assume a leadership role within the accounting team, providing guidance and direction.
  • Clearly define and delegate responsibilities among accounting team members, offering ongoing management and support to enhance employee performance and development.
  • Cultivate a strong service-oriented culture, facilitating transparent and effective communication between the accounting teams and operational leaders.
  • Ensure timely delivery of accurate monthly reports, forecasts, variance analysis, work in progress, and financial trend analysis to the management.
  • Spearheaded the development of an annual business plan, outlining goals and objectives for each department.
  • Supervise the enhancement of business processes, internal controls, systems, and procedures to uphold information integrity for the portfolio.
  • Contribute to the annual audit process by preparing working papers, and financial statements, and resolving audit issues.
  • Collaborate with auditors, banking representatives, legal counsel, and government officials on matters related to accounting and financial reporting.
Qualifications:
  • Possess an undergraduate degree and a recognized professional accounting designation.
  • Accomplished financial leader with robust technical and reporting expertise.
  • Proficient in technical skills, showcasing the ability to lead job cost and financial reporting functions.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Excel, along with experience in project proformas and financial models.
  • Strong familiarity with systems usage and knowledge.
  • Previous experience as a strategic business partner to operational teams, offering insightful analyses, business support, and recommendations for ongoing activities.
  • Display enthusiasm, forward-thinking, and a positive, growth-oriented mindset.
  • Proven track record of providing effective leadership, mentorship, and training within an accounting team.
