Join a top employer and advance your career! Aplin has partnered with our Calgary-based client to recruit a Refinery Operations Accountant for a full-time permanent position. The Refinery Operations Accountant reports directly to the Controller and collaborates daily with the Refinery team.

This position is deadline-driven and requires a dynamic professional with the ability to pivot quickly to meet reporting requirements.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of the Processing Agreement, Partnership Agreements and other related agreements
  • Optimize accounting methodologies and processes for recording the Sturgeon Refinery activities, including consolidation
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Refinery and other internal departments to achieve objectives
  • Attend meetings with counterparties and ensure the client's interests are safeguarded
  • Assist with interpreting the Processing Agreement, Partnership Agreements and other agreements to record monthly activity and cash settlement
  • Develop reporting and analyses from accounting results to ensure counterparties are operating efficiently and within the terms of the respective agreements
  • In addition to ongoing reporting, communicate to management on a regular basis on Refinery activities
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CMA, CGA or CA), or an equivalent combination of related experience and education
  • Minimum 10 years of accounting experience, with preference given to applicants with refinery accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the oil and gas sector and possesses a strong working knowledge of IFRS
  • Demonstrated experience in working in a dynamic environment dealing with complex issues

  • Strong communication, both written and oral, with effective interpersonal skills
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently or in a team environment
  • Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Strong attention to detail while having the ability to see the “big picture”
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Proven ability to prioritize and meet critical deadlines
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • Experience with Dynamics 365 preferred
