Our client is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Accountant in either their Duncan or Nanaimo offices to support the financial operations of the business. This role offers exposure to full-cycle accounting within a project-driven environment and provides the opportunity to work closely with operational leadership.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee day-to-day accounting activities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to internal controls
- Lead the month-end close process, coordinating deadlines and deliverables
- Perform full-cycle accounting including AR, AP, payroll, benefits, journal entries, reconciliations, job costing, and intercompany transactions
- Support cash management processes including deposits, receipts, and bank reconciliations
- Monitor and report on inventory, fixed assets, amortization, leases, loans, accruals, and prepaids
- Allocate and track equipment-related repair, maintenance, and operational costs
- Prepare monthly and annual financial statements and support tax-related filings and remittances
- Liaise with external auditors, advisors, financial institutions, insurers, and tax authorities
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc financial analysis
- Maintain accurate working papers and documentation
- Support development and enhancement of accounting policies and procedures
- Ensure compliance with indirect taxes and regulatory requirements (e.g., GST, PST, WCB)
- Provide financial insights to operational leaders to assist with business decision-making
- Provide coverage and support during peak periods or staff absences
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA designation or active pursuit considered an asset but not essential
- 2–3 years of full-cycle accounting experience
- Experience within construction, project-based, or industrial environments considered advantageous
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, or similar ERP systems)
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized with strong time management abilities
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and deadlines
- Analytical mindset with the ability to work both independently and within a team
- Solid understanding of accounting standards and regulatory compliance
COMPENSATION
- Base salary in the range of $70,000 – $80,000, depending on experience and qualifications
