About the Role
The Estimator/Project Manager reports to the Regional / District Manager, Contracts Manager, Service Manager, National Sales Manager, or local Manager, Fire Protection.
Nature and Scope
- Take calls from general contractors or other individuals requesting pricing on large or small sprinkler jobs
- Gather relevant information pertaining to preparation of quotes for fire protection systems (i.e. drawings and speculations etc.)
- Responsible for development and ongoing support of customer relationships
- Responsible for sourcing sprinkler projects and setting up estimates in building connected
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of new fire sprinkler technologies, components, and industry standards to ensure accurate and competitive estimates.
- Maintain detailed knowledge of industry products and services from all manufacturers and providers
- Arrange for office staff and contract admin team to acquire drawings and specifications and bonds when required
- Attend job-site meetings for upcoming projects being tendered
- Dissect project schedules to determine key dates for estimated installation loading and extrapolate internal key dates for design, procurement, fabrication and completion on successful estimates.
- Preparation of tenders and quotations
- Price labour, material, permit fees and all other relevant costs and apply mark up for tenders
- Provide basic layouts on tender drawings for bid purposes; design build projects
- Produce accurate and concise details on engineered systems.
- Provide assistance to customers and act as a liaison between consultants, contractors, sales, site personnel and verification personnel as required
- Engage in design turnover meetings with design staff and PM
- Manage internal deliverables
- Facilitate effective communication among stakeholders to ensure alignment and transparency
- Assess on-site labour productivity against monthly billing cycles and project targets.
- Manage and oversee the full lifecycle of multiple projects from initiation to completion
- Coordinate and collaborate within large project teams and stakeholders.
- Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
- Track and report project status, including milestones, deliverables, and budget to senior management
- Manage change orders on projects with documentation of scope changes
- Promote compliance with EHS polices on projects
- Other related duties as assigned.
- 2 years post-secondary education in related field; Fire Protection Engineering Technology would be an asset
- Experience with design, supply and installation of Fire Protection Sprinkler Systems
- Experience with estimating software or able to learn new estimating software
- Excellent understanding of general construction practices
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to collaborate with multiple teams and manage several projects at once
- Knowledge of construction practices, including blueprint reading and project management
- Attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate material takeoffs
- Working experience with both metric and imperial measurements and be ability to read and interpret scale drawings as well as other drawing formats provided
- Strong knowledge of NFPA standards, local building codes
- Proficient computer skills and working experience with Microsoft 365 (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
