Our client is a collaborative, architect-led design-build firm based in Winnipeg, specializing in custom residential and commercial projects. With ~30 employees across two integrated companies, they operate in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and are looking for a hands-on, strategic accountant to help lead financial systems and drive business growth.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Finance & Strategy Lead to take ownership of all accounting functions and financial leadership. You’ll partner closely with the VP of Operations and a fractional CFO, managing everything from cash flow strategy to financial reporting. This is a leadership-track opportunity with a clear path to ownership within approximately 4–5 years.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations
- Perform full-cycle accrual-based accounting
- Manage bookkeeping: AP, AR, reconciliations, payroll entry, benefits tracking
- Maintain CRA compliance (GST/PST, payroll, T4s, WCB)
- Oversee percentage-of-completion accounting and holdbacks
- Manage WIP reporting and intercompany reconciliations
- Improve financial systems (Sage 100 Contractor or similar)
- Supervise office admin for transactional support
- Forecast cash flow and model financial scenarios
- Track KPIs and collaborate with Project Managers on budget oversight
- Produce monthly project profitability and employee performance reports
- Lead invoicing, forecasting, and enforce reporting deadlines
- Analyze margins, overhead, and KPIs for long-term planning
- Support strategic initiatives in collaboration with senior leadership
- Support payroll processing and compensation tracking
- Maintain accurate HR and onboarding records
- Ensure accurate CRA remittances and compliance
- Help structure scalable HR and accounting systems
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance (preferred)
- CPA designation or in progress (preferred)
- 5+ years of hands-on accounting experience (required if no degree)
- Strong background in accrual accounting and job costing
- Experience with Sage 100 Contractor or similar ERPs (e.g., Sage 300, Oracle, Viewpoint)
- Advanced Excel skills (modeling, pivot tables, formulas)
- Familiarity with Canadian payroll, remittance, and compliance requirements
