A leading civil construction contractor is seeking an experienced Plant Manager to lead the operations of three material production units in the greater Edmonton area. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for daily business operations, safety, and performance across:
  • Asphalt Plants (Acheson and Leduc)
  • Soil Cement Plant (Edmonton)
  • Ready-Mix Concrete Plant (Acheson)
Applicants must have experience with Asphalt and/or Concrete production /Ready Mix production in a supervisory or technical operations role.

Key Responsibilities

Health, Safety & Environment
Responsible for driving safety performance across Business Units by leading indicator safety metrics:
  • Implementing and managing the HSE Program
  • Ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and environmental policies
    Collaborates with leadership and project teams to achieve HSE goal
  • Fosters a culture of accountability
  • Continuously improves safety practices through guidance, feedback
  • Leading by example
Plant Operations Management
To support continuous production and meet business objectives:
  • Develop and oversee production, maintenance
  • Deliver strategies to meet KPIs
  • Optimize plant performance
  • Ensure efficient resource management. 
Manage daily operations:
  • Quality control
  • Inventory
  • Cross-functional coordination
Maintenance Management
To ensure optimal equipment performance and facility upkeep. Coordinate with Business Unit Superintendents to plan and execute preventive, predictive, and proactive maintenance for plant equipment:
  • Develop maintenance schedules
  • Manage major repairs
  • Conduct regular inspections
Team Supervision
Uphold company values while leading and engaging a team through clear communication, guidance, and employee development: 
  • Manage workforce planning
  • Foster strong union and cross-functional relations
  • Promote a collaborative, empowered, and ethical work environment
Employee Development & Coaching 
To enhance overall team performance, lead initiatives focused on talent management succession planning, and team development:
  • Identifying key roles
  • Addressing skill gaps
  • Providing training
  • Ensuring clear communication of goals and corrective actions 
Financial & Risk Management 
To ensure effective cost control and business planning, support the Sales and Manufacturing teams on:
  • Quoting
  • Budgeting
  • Forecasting to ensure effective cost control and business planning. 
Monitor performance metrics:
  • Account receivables & payables
  • Inventory in line with company guidelines to identify improvement opportunities.
Business Development & Customer Relations Management
Regularly engage with the Sales team to explore bid opportunities and support the pursuit of new business within existing accounts and local markets. 

Collaborate across departments to ensure smooth delivery of products and services, while also preparing proposals, negotiating deals, and analyzing market trends for continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Must have hands-on experience with asphalt and/or concrete/ready-mix materials production
  • Minimum of 5+ years in a supervisory or plant management role
  • Strong technical knowledge of asphalt/concrete operations and equipment
  • Familiarity with Command Alkon, MINDS, JDE, and MS Office software
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage cross-site responsibilities
