Aplin is proud to partner with a growing organization in the Winnipeg area to recruit a Junior AI & Automation Analyst. This is a newly created position offering an exciting opportunity for someone who is curious about AI, automation and emerging technology and wants the opportunity to make a real impact.

This is not a traditional software development role. The successful candidate will work closely with teams across the organization to identify opportunities where AI, automation, data and technology can improve processes, connect systems and eliminate manual work.
Because this is a brand-new position, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to help shape the role, recommend technologies and build solutions from the ground up.

The Opportunity
The organization currently uses a variety of business systems and platforms across different departments. Some systems are integrated, while others operate independently, creating opportunities to improve how information is captured, shared and accessed.
The successful candidate will help identify these opportunities and develop practical solutions using AI, automation, integrations and other emerging technologies.

Potential projects may include:
  • Developing AI-powered tools, agents and internal applications
  • Improving communication and information flow between business systems
  • Automating manual data entry and document-processing activities
  • Using AI to extract, classify and transfer information from documents
  • Developing dashboards, reporting tools and data-driven interfaces
  • Exploring forecasting and analytics opportunities
  • Supporting the development of internal or client-facing portals and chatbots
  • Improving how field and operational information is captured and entered into business systems
  • Integrating systems through APIs and cloud-based technologies
  • Identifying opportunities to use AI and automation to solve real business problems
  • Supporting ERP-related projects and helping identify opportunities for further system improvements
The organization has already identified a number of potential projects and areas for improvement. The successful candidate will help assess these opportunities, determine the appropriate technology or approach, and bring solutions to life.

What You'll Do
  • Work with business and operational teams to understand their processes, challenges and technology needs
  • Identify opportunities where AI, automation or system integration can create efficiencies
  • Research and recommend appropriate tools, platforms and technologies
  • Design, develop and implement AI and automation solutions
  • Work with LLMs and generative AI applications, including prompt engineering and AI-powered tools
  • Support API and cloud-based integrations
  • Work with data, databases and existing business systems
  • Use Python, SQL and/or other scripting technologies as required
  • Test, troubleshoot and refine solutions
  • Document processes, solutions and technical information
  • Work closely with non-technical users to ensure solutions are practical and user-friendly
  • Learn the organization's ERP and business systems and understand how information moves through the organization
  • Help prioritize projects based on business value, feasibility and organizational needs
  • Stay current with emerging AI, automation and technology trends
What We're Looking For
This opportunity is well suited to someone early in their career who has hands-on experience with AI, automation or technology projects and is excited about the opportunity to continue learning.

We're open to a variety of backgrounds. You may be a recent graduate, have co-op or internship experience, or have developed AI/automation projects independently or through school. What you've actually built and how you approached the problem will be more important than simply having a certain number of years of experience.

The ideal candidate will have:
  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Information Technology, Software Development or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Foundational knowledge of Python and SQL
  • Understanding of AI, machine learning concepts, LLMs and generative AI
  • Hands-on experience with AI, automation or technology projects
  • Exposure to APIs, cloud platforms and system integrations
  • Experience or familiarity with Azure is an asset
  • Exposure to Power Automate, Microsoft 365, RPA, low-code platforms or other automation tools is an asset
  • An understanding of prompt engineering and practical LLM applications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Curiosity and a willingness to learn
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work with both technical and non-technical teams
  • Strong organization and the ability to manage competing priorities
You Don't Need to Be a Traditional Software Developer

We're not looking for someone who spends all day writing code.

You should have enough technical understanding to work with code, databases, APIs and AI tools, understand how different technologies fit together and troubleshoot or develop solutions. You should also be comfortable using AI-assisted development tools and determining when a low-code, automation or other approach may be more appropriate than traditional development.

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who can look at a business problem and think:

"There has to be a better way to do this."

Then figure out what that better way might look like.

Why This Opportunity?
This is a chance to join an organization at the beginning of its AI and automation journey.

You'll have the opportunity to:
  • Help build a new AI/automation function from the ground up
  • Work on a wide variety of projects across the organization
  • Have a direct impact on how technology is used within the business
  • Recommend and introduce new technologies and approaches
  • Work closely with teams across the organization
  • Develop your technical and business knowledge
  • Take ownership of projects and see your ideas move from concept to implementation
  • Grow with the role as the organization's use of AI and automation expands
The long-term scope of the position is intentionally flexible. As the organization's technology and AI capabilities evolve, there is potential for the role to expand into areas such as AI leadership, broader systems/ERP responsibilities and ownership of future AI initiatives.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Full-time, permanent position
  • Three weeks of vacation
  • Comprehensive benefits following three months of employment
  • Pension program following one year of employment
  • Annual cost-of-living increases
  • Additional opportunities for merit-based salary increases
  • Flexible start/end times within standard business hours
  • Fully on-site work environment
The Right Fit
We're looking for someone who is genuinely curious about technology and enjoys figuring things out.

You don't need to have all the answers. In fact, this role is being created in part because the organization wants someone who can bring new ideas, identify possibilities and help determine what technology can do for the business.

If you've built an AI project at school, developed something on your own, experimented with LLMs, automated a process, connected systems or simply have a strong technical foundation and the curiosity to figure things out, we'd like to hear from you.
