This is an exciting opportunity for an electrical design professional who enjoys working on complex engineered products and wants to play a key role in the design of electrical panels, power distribution systems, and associated electrical infrastructure supporting industrial equipment.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Electrical Engineering Manager, the Electrical Designer will be responsible for the design and development of electrical panels and power distribution systems for low- to medium-voltage industrial equipment. This role will focus on electrical schematics, equipment selection, power distribution architecture, protection systems, and supporting manufacturing throughout the product development and production lifecycle.
Location: Greater Montreal Area
Compensation: $80,000 - $90,000 per annum, commensurate with experience

Key Responsibilities
- Design electrical control panels and power distribution systems for industrial equipment and engineered products.
- Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and bill of materials using AutoCAD Electrical or similar design software.
- Select and specify electrical components including breakers, fuses, motor starters, contactors, transformers, relays, power supplies, busbars, junction boxes, and enclosures.
- Design and size low- and medium-voltage power distribution systems, including cable sizing, grounding, and protection coordination.
- Support the development and integration of electrical systems within larger mechanical and control system assemblies.
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams, electricians, and technicians during prototype builds and production activities.
- Interface with suppliers to evaluate and select electrical equipment and ensure compliance with technical specifications.
- Support troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives related to electrical systems and panel designs.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable electrical codes, safety standards, and industry best practices.
- Degree, diploma, or technologist designation in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related discipline.
- Minimum three years of experience designing electrical panels, power distribution systems, or industrial electrical equipment.
- Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, power distribution, motor control, and electrical protection devices.
- Experience with AutoCAD Electrical or similar electrical design software.
- Familiarity with CSA, UL, NEC, and applicable electrical standards.
- Knowledge of major electrical equipment manufacturers such as Siemens, ABB, Eaton, Schneider Electric, and Rockwell Automation.
- Experience supporting industrial equipment, OEM manufacturing, automation systems, or custom-engineered products is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Hands-on approach with a willingness to work closely with manufacturing and production teams.
- Work on technically advanced industrial equipment and custom-engineered systems.
