Aplin has partnered with a marine engineering company to hire a Detail Designer in Dartmouth, NS. As a Detail Designer, you will play a key role in transforming complex ship designs into accurate 2D production drawings that support the construction and sustainment of client vessels.
Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will develop and interpret detailed drawings for equipment installations, foundations, mechanical and electrical systems, and primary structures, ensuring all deliverables meet shipyard, regulatory, and industry standards.

In this role, you will contribute directly to the technical foundation of major naval and marine programs. You will collaborate closely with peers across disciplines and be part of a team committed to continuous improvement, technical growth, and quality excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Produce accurate, high-quality 2D drawings derived from 3D ship models, including parts, assemblies, installations, and diagrams.
  • Apply shipyard, classification, and internal design standards to all work.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by meeting and enhancing drawing targets and processes.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and project team members to deliver integrated marine design and build solutions.
  • Maintain organized documentation and project files, ensuring deliverables are completed on schedule.
Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering field; or an Engineering Technology diploma.
Requirements
  • Experience in drafting, 3D modelling, or engineering design (candidates at all experience levels are encouraged to apply).
  • Training or experience in 2D drafting and 3D modelling using marine or mechanical design software.
  • Experience with FORAN or similar CAD tools is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience with naval vessels, shipyards, or marine engineering projects is an asset, but not required.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills to support cross-disciplinary design work.
