The Purchaser is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing construction materials, tools, and equipment to support company operations. This role ensures materials are available on time, at optimal value, and meet quality standards, while maintaining strong supplier relationships and accurate inventory levels. Excellent communication skills and hands-on experience with construction materials are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Source and purchase construction materials, tools, and supplies based on project requirements and inventory levels
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers
- Issue purchase orders and monitor order status to ensure on-time delivery
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate replenishment to prevent shortages or excess stock
- Evaluate supplier performance related to cost, quality, service, and reliability
- Maintain accurate purchasing records, pricing structures, and vendor documentation
- Collaborate closely with warehouse, project management, sales, and accounting teams
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and alternative sourcing options
- Resolve issues related to damaged goods, shortages, or incorrect deliveries
- Stay informed on market trends, pricing fluctuations, and product availability within the construction materials industry
- High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of purchasing or procurement experience within construction, building materials, or supply distribution
- Proven experience working with construction materials and industry terminology
- Strong negotiation, vendor management, and analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with ERP systems, purchasing software, and Microsoft Excel
- Strong organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
