Aplin has partnered with a national bank to hire a Data Administrator for a 12 month contract. This will be a hybrid role worked out of their office in Ottawa, ON and have the opportunity to extend to a total of 2 years.
The Data Administrator will provide technical database support and administration to the Bank, working under the direction of the Assistant Director, Enterprise Storage and Database Services. This role involves maintaining both on-premises and cloud-based (Azure) database environments, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability.
You will work closely with database administrators and technical teams to support mission-critical systems and contribute to ongoing enterprise projects.
Compensation
Compensation is competitive, with an expected hourly rate of $40–$60 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain supported database software, including Oracle Database and Microsoft SQL Server, in both on-premises and Azure High Availability environments.
- Monitor and tune database performance to ensure efficient operation.
- Implement and maintain backup and recovery strategies to meet business service-level agreements (SLAs).
- Manage database security to ensure data is accessible only to authorized users.
- Ensure data consistency by following data model standards and best practices.
- Maintain schema objects and perform production migrations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database-related technical issues.
- Analyze system performance to identify bottlenecks and evaluate the impact of administrative tasks on core business operations.
- Participate in the resolution of complex database issues using advanced technical knowledge.
- Provide operational support to other database administrators as needed.
- Complete other related tasks and deliverables as required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Database Administrator or similar role.
- Hands-on experience with:
- MS Azure SQL and Azure SQL Managed Instance (MI)
- Oracle Exadata databases deployed in Azure cloud environments
- Oracle 19c and SQL Server 2019 or higher
- Cloud SQL PaaS services, specifically Azure
- Oracle Cloud, including Oracle Exadata Database Service
- PostgreSQL on Azure
- Oracle Exadata, Data Guard, RAC
- Database Recovery Manager (RMAN) for backup/restore and point-in-time recovery
- Oracle Data Pump for database/data migration
- Oracle Advanced Security Transparent Data Encryption (TDE)
- Experience with Oracle Autonomous Database.
- Knowledge of Commvault backup solutions.
- Knowledge of Dynatrace monitoring.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Relevant certifications such as:
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
- Oracle Cloud certifications (OCP, etc.)
