Location: Darmouth, NS
Term: 6-Month Contract, with strong potential for extension or permanent hire

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join a multi-disciplinary engineering team working on advanced electronic systems used in demanding and mission-critical environments. This role focuses on developing innovative hardware and firmware solutions across several specialist areas including low-noise preamps, high-speed digital telemetry, digital signal processing, and RF design.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, test, and maintain hardware and firmware systems in accordance with engineering procedures and project requirements.

  • Prepare and review design documentation, including requirements, schematics, board layouts, specifications, and data sheets.

  • Support or lead the development of engineering deliverables for electrical system upgrades, modifications, and new designs.

  • Contribute to cost estimation activities and reporting.

  • Apply advanced engineering principles to solve complex technical challenges.

  • Act as a technical point of contact for customers and project stakeholders.

  • Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and quality checks for junior engineers, technologists, and technicians.

  • Participate in—and when required, chair—technical reviews and design discussions.

  • Perform additional engineering tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering with 10+ years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 7+ years.

  • Eligibility to work with Canadian Controlled Goods and US ITAR-controlled articles.

  • Ability to obtain NATO Reliability and Secret security clearances.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Underwater Acoustics Engineering.

  • More than 10 years of experience in commercial or military electronic system design.

  • 3+ years of experience as an Engineering Lead or Project Lead.

  • Background in the maritime or underwater systems domain (asset).

  • Expertise in analog and digital circuit design.

  • Experience with embedded microcontroller design (ARM or DSP-based systems).

  • Strong understanding of SPI, I2C, UART, and other communication interfaces.

  • Experience with DSP applications.

  • Proficiency in OrCAD Capture, OrCAD PSpice Designer, and PCB layout tools.

  • Competency in C, Assembly, and embedded programming.

  • FPGA development experience (VHDL).

  • Knowledge of fiber optic and high-speed network communication (Ethernet, ATM, SONET).

  • Experience with embedded development tools (e.g., Sourcery CodeBench, Atollic TrueSTUDIO).

  • Strong communication skills, collaborative mindset, and ability to mentor others.

  • Highly self-motivated, adaptable, attentive to detail, and able to prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Familiarity with formal engineering design processes and documentation standards.

  • Willingness to travel within Canada, the U.S., and internationally as needed.
