Aplin has partnered with a leading industrial manufacturer in Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia to recruit a highly skilled and motivated Purchasing Manager. This is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing all procurement activities, supplier relationships, inventory levels, and the performance of both the Purchasing department. Reporting to the Controller, the Purchasing Manager will ensure the organization secures materials, supplies, equipment, and services safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively—while providing exceptional internal support to Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all procurement activities, including the negotiation of contracts for raw materials, operating supplies, capital equipment, and services.
  • Oversee and mentor the Purchasing and Stores teams, including Buyers, Stores Operators, and support staff.
  • Manage inventory levels for raw materials, finishing supplies, and MRO to ensure operational readiness and minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering and Maintenance on major maintenance initiatives and capital projects to ensure optimal return on investment.
  • Maintain strong, strategic relationships with external vendors and suppliers while driving value, cost savings, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with contract standards, procurement policies, and inventory control systems.
  • Optimize procurement processes and enhance ERP utilization to improve efficiency and decision-making.
Skills & Competency Requirements
  • Proven ability to work safely within a collaborative, team-focused environment.
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to secure favourable commercial terms and long-term supplier value.
  • Decisive leader with excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Strong functional capability with ERP systems and technology-driven procurement workflows.
  • Extensive understanding of supplier contracts, construction contracts, purchase orders, transportation systems, and inventory management.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Experience & Education
  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Supply Chain, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 10+ years of purchasing experience, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation is an asset.
  • Experience managing both staff and unionized personnel is considered beneficial.
