Our client is building a modern enterprise architecture practice and is seeking a Business Architect to help lay the foundation. This short-term role is ideal for someone energized by establishing structure in a growing environment—delivering practical frameworks, building reference models, and accelerating organizational maturity. The Business Architect will play a hands-on role in shaping business processes, governance models, and documentation that will support long-term growth.

Responsibilities
- Develop an initial business architecture framework, including methods, templates, and standards.
- Capture and document current-state capabilities, processes, and value streams in priority areas.
- Analyze gaps between existing capabilities and strategic objectives; recommend future investment focus areas.
- Produce a high-level business capability map and related reference artifacts.
- Support governance setup by creating lightweight processes and criteria to evaluate business alignment of technology initiatives.
- Provide coaching and knowledge transfer to colleagues, ensuring continuity after the contract ends.
- Diploma or degree in computer science, business administration, management, or engineering (recognized in Canada); MBA is an asset.
- At least 7 years of progressive architecture experience with proven success in business/process modelling, governance frameworks, and implementation roadmaps.
- Strong knowledge of modern architecture standards, business process modelling tools (UML, BPMN), and value chain approaches (e.g., Wardley Maps).
- Experience leading short-term architecture initiatives, ideally in organizations establishing new practices.
- Excellent communicator with strong facilitation, relationship-building, and mentoring skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to documentation, knowledge transfer, and equipping permanent staff for long-term success.
