We are seeking an experienced Accounting Operations Supervisor for a contract role with a strong background in municipal financial operations. This position plays a key role in maintaining financial integrity through internal controls, compliance, and process improvements, while supporting the delivery of accurate and transparent financial reporting. The successful candidate will bring leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to collaborate across departments in a municipal environment.
This is a 2 month contract with potential for extension. The ideal candidate will be located in Brooks, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, or Calgary and will be working on a hybrid model (office is located in Brooks).

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the review and oversight of accounting systems, financial controls, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Monitor internal controls across accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash handling, inventory, and asset management processes.
- Prepare and deliver financial reports, including audited annual statements, and act as liaison with external auditors, regulators, and other levels of government.
- Provide financial analysis and reporting support to management and council committees.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure a timely and accurate flow of information and support decision-making.
- Partner with the Finance leadership team to provide backup and coverage as needed.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance. Experience must be within a municipal or public sector environment, including supervisory experience.
- Professional Accounting Designation (CPA) preferred.
- Strong knowledge of public sector accounting standards and municipal financial reporting.
- Proven expertise in budgeting, financial analysis, and audit coordination.
- Demonstrated skills in leadership, communication, problem-solving, and relationship management.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a complex environment.
- Proficiency with financial and accounting software; experience with systems such as Vadim, iCity, or CaseWare is considered an asset.
- Strong technical ability with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Experience in risk management, procurement, or unionized settings would be an advantage.
