Senior Estimator

Aplin has partnered with a reputable, family-owned structural steel fabrication and erection company headquartered in Edmonton. Due to continued growth, they are seeking a Senior Estimator to join their team and lead estimating efforts on structural steel projects.

As a Senior Estimator, you will play a key role in preparing accurate, timely, and competitive estimates for a variety of structural and miscellaneous steel projects. You will be responsible for analyzing project documents, identifying costs for labour, materials, and equipment, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather essential information throughout the bidding process. Your insights will help drive successful project acquisition and reinforce our standing in the market.
 
Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare detailed estimates for structural steel projects, both large and small, within set deadlines.
  
  
• Review and interpret drawings, specifications, and tender documents to develop comprehensive cost breakdowns.
  
  
• Identify and calculate material quantities, labour hours, and equipment needs with a high level of accuracy.
  
  
• Source and evaluate pricing from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring competitiveness and value.
  
  
• Collaborate closely with project managers, shop personnel, and field teams to support accurate take-offs and bid submissions.
  
  
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry pricing, trends, and market conditions.

Qualifications:

• Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
  
  
• Minimum 8 years of experience estimating structural steel fabrication and erection, specifically in the commercial and institutional sectors.
  
  
• Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  
  
• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  
  
• Strong time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  
  
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with estimating software is an asset.
