Aplin is proud to partner with a rapidly growing Alberta-based engineering consulting firm to recruit a Process Mechanical Design/Drafting Technologist to support the design and delivery of critical water and wastewater infrastructure projects. This position offers a dynamic opportunity for a detail-oriented and technically proficient technologist to play a key role in multi-disciplinary project teams.
Working as part of a collaborative and high-performing team, the successful candidate will support the engineering group with process mechanical design and CAD drafting for a wide variety of municipal infrastructure initiatives.

CAD Drafting & Design Coordination

Working as part of a collaborative and high-performing team, the successful candidate will support the engineering group with process mechanical design and CAD drafting for a wide variety of municipal infrastructure initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
CAD Drafting & Design Coordination
- Prepare engineering drawings, P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and equipment layouts using Autodesk AutoCAD and Plant 3D.
- Coordinate and contribute to multi-discipline design sets including civil, structural, mechanical, HVAC, electrical, and controls.
- Organize and manage drawing files to maintain consistent and well-structured documentation across projects.
- Assist in the sizing and selection of process equipment and mechanical components (pumps, valves, chemical feed systems).
- Support facility layout planning, ensuring integration across disciplines and adherence to project goals.
- Contribute to design detailing including piping layouts, mechanical penetrations, supports, connections, and instrumentation schematics.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, designers, and other technologists on infrastructure projects including:
- Water treatment plants and pump stations
- Wastewater treatment facilities and lift stations
- Raw water systems, lagoons, and transmission pipelines
- Civil site development and infrastructure buildings
- Follow established quality management procedures and company templates for documentation.
- Work within established budgets and timelines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proactively manage and forecast task completion for design deliverables.
- Diploma in Engineering Design Technology or Mechanical Engineering Technology from NAIT or an equivalent institution.
- Registration in good standing with ASET as a Technologist-in-Training (T.T.) or Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.).
- 0–5 years of experience in consulting engineering, ideally with exposure to water/wastewater infrastructure.
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Plant 3D in both 2D and 3D design environments.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a collaborative mindset.
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
