The Opportunity
Aplin is proud to partner with a leading manufacturer in the HVAC and thermal management sector to recruit a Chiller/Industrial HVAC Technician based in the Montreal region.

This is a highly hands-on technical role focused on the assembly, integration, testing, troubleshooting, and validation of commercial and industrial HVAC equipment, including chillers and heat pumps. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with engineering, R&D, and production teams throughout the full product development lifecycle, supporting both prototype and production units in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

This role is well-suited for an experienced HVAC, refrigeration, or electromechanical technician who enjoys working with complex mechanical and electrical systems and contributing to innovation and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Assembly & Fabrication
  • Assemble components such as compressors, heat exchangers, piping systems, valves, and structural assemblies
  • Perform copper pipe brazing, cutting, fitting, and alignment tasks
  • Support fabrication work including drilling, cutting, deburring, and part modifications
  • Interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and bills of material
Electrical Assembly & Controls Support
  • Perform electrical panel wiring and field wiring tasks
  • Install and connect sensors, transducers, relays, contactors, VFDs, power supplies, and safety devices
  • Support installation of instrumentation for pressure, temperature, flow, and current monitoring
  • Assist with controls commissioning and signal verification
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
Refrigeration & HVAC Systems
  • Safely evacuate, charge, and recover refrigerants in compliance with industry standards
  • Perform leak testing, pressure testing, and system integrity checks
  • Support refrigerant circuit preparation, oil handling, and filter replacement
Startup, Testing & Troubleshooting
  • Prepare chillers and heat pumps for commissioning and testing
  • Execute startup procedures and functional performance testing
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and controls issues
  • Support validation activities and factory acceptance testing
Production & Team Support
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing and production teams
  • Assist with prototype development and special projects
  • Support project timelines through flexibility and collaboration
Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience with commercial or industrial HVAC systems, preferably chillers
  • Experience with mechanical assembly and electrical/control wiring in manufacturing, testing, or R&D environments
  • Strong understanding of refrigeration cycles, refrigerant handling, evacuation, and charging procedures
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and control diagrams
  • Experience with electrical panels, sensors, VFDs, and industrial controls
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across mechanical and electrical systems
  • HVAC/R, refrigeration, electrical, or mechanical technical training is considered an asset
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both French and English
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on, collaborative environment
