Recruitment Fraud

Recruitment Fraud

Individuals are impersonating Aplin employees and our affiliated brands to contact people about jobs, executive search assignments, and board appointments. These messages can look credible, reference your experience and begin with a simple request to discuss an opportunity or review your resume. A fraudulent approach does not always involve an immediate request for money.

How to recognize legitimate contact

Email

Our recruiters use company email addresses associated with Aplin or our affiliated brands. Be cautious of personal email accounts and lookalike domains. Senders can also spoof addresses, so a familiar address alone doesn't confirm authenticity.

Job Platforms

Our recruiters use LinkedIn and Indeed to connect with candidates. Names, photos and profile details can be copied, so a familiar profile alone does not confirm authenticity. Verify any suspicious contact directly with our team.

WhatsApp

Our recruiters never communicate with candidates on WhatsApp. Any message on WhatsApp claiming to represent Aplin or our affiliated brands is not legitimate. If you receive one, do not respond. Consider reporting it.

Fees

Our recruitment services are always free to job seekers. We never ask candidates to pay recruitment fees or transfer money to secure a job. If someone requests payment while claiming to represent us, do not engage; contact our team.

Requests for personal information

Legitimate recruitment and onboarding may require personal information, including identification or payroll details where appropriate. Before providing sensitive information, confirm who is requesting it, why it is needed and how to submit it securely. Be cautious of unexpected requests through messaging apps, unfamiliar forms or links, particularly when accompanied by pressure to act quickly.

Verify a recruiter or report suspicious contact

Email fraud@aplin.com to verify an approach or report suspected impersonation involving Aplin or our affiliated brands. You can also call 1-844-552-7546 or contact your local Aplin office.

Include the sender’s address or profile link, a brief description and screenshots or the original email. Do not include identification documents, banking details or passwords.

Pause the conversation while you verify the sender. If you already know the recruiter, contact them using previously confirmed details.

Already sent money or shared sensitive information?

Contact your financial institution, change exposed passwords, and report suspected fraud to local police and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
