Working under general supervision, the Towed Array Technician assembles, tests, troubleshoots, and repairs electronic, mechanical, and electromechanical assemblies and systems. The role involves working with technical drawings, test equipment, and manufacturing processes to ensure product quality, reliability, and compliance with specifications.

Job Description
Working under general supervision, the Towed Array Technician assembles, tests, troubleshoots, and repairs electronic, mechanical, and electromechanical assemblies and systems. The role involves working with technical drawings, test equipment, and manufacturing processes to ensure product quality, reliability, and compliance with specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble, test, troubleshoot, and repair a wide range of electronic assemblies and subassemblies.
- Assemble, test, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and electromechanical assemblies and subassemblies.
- Assemble, inspect, test, troubleshoot, and repair complete systems in accordance with specifications, diagrams, and drawings.
- Assemble various types of strength members in accordance with specifications, diagrams, and drawings.
- Operate various types of environmental chambers.
- Apply technical knowledge to perform timely testing and troubleshooting of complex products.
- Configure test equipment and build electronic jigs and fixtures.
- Apply appropriate electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions.
- Set up and operate test equipment and maintain test records for operator verification.
- Coordinate activities with other departments to ensure continuity of operations, as required.
- Maintain test equipment.
- Compile and analyze records and statistics and prepare test and failure reports as required.
- Apply formulas and perform calculations as required.
- Manage engineering changes by accessing relevant information, communicating updates to team members, and maintaining build configuration.
- Maintain production quality and output in accordance with production schedules.
- Identify workmanship and material non-conformances and initiate investigations.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to team members.
- Assist in the design of jigs and fixtures.
- Recommend design changes based on technical knowledge and experience.
- Maintain tools and work areas in a safe, orderly, and clean condition.
- Grade 12 education, along with a recognized community college technician/technologist qualification or equivalent experience and capability.
- Ability to obtain the appropriate Canadian government security clearance and meet all requirements to work on Canadian Controlled Goods projects.
- Willingness to work, day, evening, and back shifts.
- Current knowledge of electronic materials, principles, circuit construction, and quality control procedures.
- Good working knowledge of recognized industry workmanship standards.
- Soldering skills that meet recognized industry workmanship standards.
- Ability to work from verbal instructions, sketches, drawings, and wiring diagrams.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Proficiency with basic software applications, including email, web browsers, word processing, and databases.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Understanding and application of lean manufacturing principles.
- Ability to maintain high productivity without compromising quality standards.
- Positive, can-do attitude and willingness to adapt to and support change.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to collaborate closely with others, build trust and respect, and contribute effectively as part of a team.
- Willingness to use handheld power tools and equipment, including routers, Dremel tools, drills, and drill presses.
- Willingness to operate overhead cranes and winches.
- Willingness to operate common test equipment, including digital multimeters (DMMs), oscilloscopes, and measuring devices.
