Our client is seeking a Site Controller to work in their corporate office in Vancouver. As a large producer of silver and gold producer, the organization has five precious metals mines in the North America employing over 2,000 people.

The Site Controller will oversee all accounting and financial reporting functions of the mine site and will make certain of the integrity of financial data and financial reporting. Reporting to the VP, Corporate Controller and Chief Accounting Officer, this person will maintain internal control and accounting policies, procedures and systems. The Site Controller oversees the period site financial close, consolidation process and reports, and the preparation of financial statements.

Responsibilities:
  • Provides financial reporting and analysis and cost control services in accordance with company systems and procedures. Coordinates budget, forecasts and strategic plan preparation for all functional departments.
  • Plans, directs and is responsible for the financial reporting, accounting, data processing and management information systems.
  • Administers corporate accounting policies and procedures to ensure financial and operating reports reflect the condition of the operation and provide accurate and reliable information to assess the operations performance.
  • Ensures integrity of financial reports and general ledger to support decision making.
  • Ensures that accurate books and records are maintained for the mine site’s transactions.
  • Oversees and provides quality control over the preparation of period financial statements and internal reports for accuracy and comparability of information; ensures conformity with GAAP.
  • Facilitates reviews with site management of various reports and timely accounting issues, policies and processes.
  • Owns the accounting system from a site perspective; plans and implements changes to the system as required
  • Ensures timely resolution of tax related matters with city, state, province and federal agencies.
  • Leads and participates in special projects as required.
  • Supports and provides resolution to all internal and external audit processes and resulting issues that might be identified
  • Recommends and assists in implementing process improvements to either the accounting processes or SOX and management controls

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance. CPA required; MBA or graduate school preferred.
  • Experience in public company finance/accounting, ideally within the mining sector.
  • Approximately 7-10 years of progressive experience with complex accounting, internal controls, financial systems, and processes.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP, SEC reporting rules, Sarbanes-Oxley rules, and US and international tax rules and demonstrated experience in research and interpret guidance.
  • Experience working in an Oracle environment preferred.
