David Aplin Group, one of Canada's Best Managed Companies, has partnered with our client to recruit for a Residential Property Accountant.

Reporting directly to the Accounting Manager, the Residential Property Accountant is responsible for adding value to staff and clients by providing accurate and timely financial information that helps them to better manage their properties and budgets, make timely decisions, provide meaningful financial reports and monitor and control cash flows.

The Role:

  • Provide supplementary reporting as required by the client.
  • Utilize budgets and other tools to analyze variances.
  • Reconcile, analyze and understand all Balance Sheet accounts.
  • Produce monthly Financial Statements according to GAAP or as specified by client policy/requirements.
  • Ensure all legislated taxes and assessments are reconciled and remitted on a timely basis.
  • Ability to analysis and calculate AGI and Rent reduction applications.
  • Monitor cash flow positions with special attention to monthly mortgage payments, payroll billings, management fees, property taxes.
  • Anticipate future cash deficiencies and arrange for funding (cash management).
  • Determine surplus funds for distributions to owners.
  • Support Property Administration staff in dealing with resident/Yardi issues that arise.
  • Monitor and review accounts payable coding for accuracy.
The Ideal Candidate:

  • Enrolled in the CPA Program or equivalent post-secondary education with accounting focus.
  • 3 to 5 years of residential property management accounting experience would be an asset.
  • Relationship Skills - Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written; ability to develop and sustain cooperative working relationships; team player. Comfortable dealing with issues and solving problems through conversation (face to face or telephone) as well as email.
  • Organizational/Multi-Task Skills - Ability to allocate time effectively, work under pressure and manage tight deadlines; ability to handle multiple demands, competing priorities, ability to work at a detailed level; willingness to learn in a dynamic environment that includes new ideas and change.
  • Computer Skills – Intermediate to advanced skills in Excel and Word; knowledge of Yardi & JD Edwards would be an asset.
