David Aplin Group, one of Canada's Best Managed Companies, has partnered with our client, a heavy Civil Construction Group specializing in infrastructure, bridge and 3P civil projects, to recruit for their Project Manager.

This role will service a remote project location in Northern Canada. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with travel and working in a remote location for extended periods of time. 

The Design Build Project Manager will be responsible for the execution of a Design Build Contract within the framework of a 3P project in a remote area of Northern Canada, with capital costs of circa $300M in the infrastructure sector (roadworks and bridgeworks).

The DB PM will report to the Design Build Joint Venture executive committee and will be responsible for the coordination of the Project, the execution of the design and construction works in accordance with the contract and the performance of the Design Build team. 

The Role

  • Project team mobilization
  • Design and engineering within design partners
  • Procurement
  • Construction of road and bridgeworks with the support of the construction team
  • Commissioning and handover to the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) and Operation and Maintenance (O&M) provider
  • Lead a Proposal team within a Joint Venture context
  • Analyze RFP requirements and develop risk analysis 
  • Develop efficient project delivery plan 
  • Lead the estimating and contract review processes
  • Oversee design, engineering and procurement processes at bid stage. 
  • Prepare and lead Client presentations and collaborative meetings 
In particular, the Design Build Project Manager responsibilities include:

  • Health Safety and Environment performance
  • QA/QC processes to guarantee compliance with contract requirements
  • Schedule and cost performance
  • Accounting and management of Joint Venture finances
  • Reporting to Joint Venture partners
  • Contract management
  • Client relationship management
  • Local community engagement and Public Relations
The Ideal Candidate:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) or Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) 
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.)
  • 15+ years progressive experience in the construction/heavy civil industry 
  • Design and Build project manager experience is a must 
  • Prior work experience must include projects in the $200-$500M range 
  • Strong engineering, construction management and contract management skills
  • P3 experience is considered an asset 
  • Prior experience working in Northern Canada considered an asset
