Join a top employer and advance your career! Our client, a leader in the mining industry, has partnered with David Aplin Group to hire a Product Owner – Engineering Systems to analyze, communicate, validate, and translate business needs into product changes and agile stories.
 
This is a hybrid, 6–12-month contract with the potential to extend. The opportunity is available to candidates located in Calgary.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Be a courageous safety leader, enforce and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Development of and implementation aligned with Product Roadmap and for Haulage System as well as key systems in Mine Design/Geology
  • Implementation of key aspects of the Product Roadmap including Migration from Standard Haulage to Haulage as a Service Products
  • Work closely with Scrum Masters and Technical Product Owners to manage backlog including requirements/user stories, prioritization, refinement, implementation, and planning to achieve product goals
  • Led strategic business analysis efforts to support COTS products and assigned corporate programs and projects, working in collaboration with multi-functional teams, other groups, and external vendors
  • The incident, Change and Release management process leadership
  • Lead sprint-based activities (Sprint Review, Retrospectives, backlog refinements) as required
  • Contribute to processing modeling activities gathers and analyzing information from a variety of sources (SMEs, documentation, and technical) to build business process models within the process modeling methodology framework to support process improvements
  • Directly interact and positively influence all partners involved in implementation and sustainment activities
  • Build and foster and maintain relationships with end-users, executive sponsors, internal (Teck Digital Systems) resources, and external resources
  • Plan and implement updates to products/systems working with the technical resources both internal and external to an array of specialized Mine Engineering systems
  • Maintain technical specifications and knowledge base including but not limited to, system configuration, database configuration, security, and customization to optimize process working with a range of vendors
  • Build and maintain systems specifications as well as external systems design documentation
  • Engage in multiple initiatives and will be responsible for project planning, business requirements gathering, data analysis, and supporting the execution of projects and change management support
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in a Product Owner/Business Analysis Role
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Applied Science, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Business Analysis experience for enterprise-grade system sustainment and small software development projects
  • Experience/background in BPM methodologies and sophisticated Business Process Modelling skills using industry-standard practices and toolset
  • Experience in delivering large-scale projects with partners in all areas of the technical spectrum
  • Outstanding problem solving, system assessments, and design skills
  • Hard-working to discover new solutions and drive out-of-the-box ideas, critical thinker, motivated to challenge the status quo
  • Engage and collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure alignment across the Product Ecosystem
  • Proven experience and ability to engage and influence a diverse group of partners, with strong leadership skills
  • Effectively manage Product Lifecycle by adopting and continuously improving Agile practices and iterating on the team process to match the evolving organizational context and technology landscape working with internal and external partners
  • High level of initiative, motivation, and comfort with ambiguity and demonstrated ability to collaborate in a remote work environment
  • Ability to maintain awareness and knowledge of relevant processes and technology and participate in technical discussions and problem-solving
  • Engage in multiple initiatives and will be responsible for project planning, business requirements gathering, data analysis, and supporting the execution of projects and change management support
  • Curiosity about project management methodologies & frameworks (Agile, DevOps, etc.) and the resource sector
  • A valid Class 5 drivers' license and ability to travel to our sites in British Columbia up to 20% of the time (dependent on projects)
Nice to Haves:
  • Spanish Language proficiency
  • Mining industry experience is an asset
  • CBAP certification and/or PMP certification are assets.
  • Solid understanding of cloud concepts and experience with Azure (IaaS, SaaS, and PaaS)
  • Software Development experience in .NET
