David Aplin Group, one of Canada's Best Managed Companies, has partnered with our client to recruit for a Process Engineer - Non Oil & Gas.
The role is a multifaceted position with responsibilities in; Process Design, Process Improvement, and Project Management. This is specific to the food manufacturing, cpg, cannabis, microwave extraction and pharmaceutical industries.
The design aspect will include: being responsible for a processes from inception, producing specifications for design, purchase and install new or modified process systems, and finally start-up of the process.
Process Improvement includes; assess processes by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends. Prepare product and process reports and make Project Management tasks will depend on project size. Small project will be handled internally, including design, procurement and installation. For large projects which are typically contracted out to engineering companies, the role would be to monitor and manage the project to ensure requirements are met.
Duties typically will include:
measuring the performance of process parameters
analyzing and interpreting data.
undertaking relevant research
presenting designs to managers and clients
producing and implementing designs and test procedures
developing budgets, timescales and specifications with clients and managers
maintaining and modifying the process and equipment to ensure that it is safe, reliable and efficient
using computer-aided design/modelling software
liaising with suppliers
testing, evaluating, modifying and re-testing products
writing reports and documentation
providing technical advice
The Ideal Candidate:
Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, currently or immediately eligible for registration with the association of professional engineers and geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) as a professional engineer.
Process Engineering experience in CPG, pulp & paper, cannabis, food manufacturing, microwave extraction or pharmaceuticals. Only applicants with relevant manufacturing experience will be considered.
The process improvement responsibilities will require significant amounts of time in the plant. Proven diagnostic skills with the ability to problem solve process and equipment issues in an operating facility is critical.
This position is required to work well within a team environment and possesses the interpersonal and communication skills needed to work effectively in cross-functional teams internally. Also good interpersonal and communication skills are required to work with external resources, such as engineering companies, construction companies and equipment suppliers.
Although this role doesn’t include shift work, our client utilizes 24 hour production lines and as a result, this position needs to be prepared to work nights and weekends and be on call to handle operation issues.
The position is hands on, in a fast paced environment, and expected to require minimal supervision
