David Aplin Group, one of Canada's Best Managed Companies, has partnered with our client, an operator of a large chemical plant to recruit a Process Engineer - Chemical Processing based in Hamilton, Ontario


The Process Engineer will be responsible for facilitating engineering projects that focus on continuous improvements and capital expansion in a chemical plant environment. The candidate must be a strong leader who takes pride in his/her work and a quick learner with ability to handle multiple projects to its conclusions from design to commissioning stages.

The Role:

  • Developing, designing, and optimizing chemical processes according to engineering standards
  • Accountable for driving project tasks to achieve milestones in a timely manner
  • Proactively identify debottlenecking opportunities for expansion and develop improvement initiatives for safety and steady-state operations
  • Integration of capital projects into existing infrastructure
  • Work productively with multi-disciplinary teams to develop key solutions to process issues 
  • Ensuring all engineering activities are planned and executed safely and in compliance with Ontario Health and Safety legislation
  • Developing SOP’s and provide training for operators
  • Coordinating with outside contractors and engineering firms
  • Setting up scale-up and scale-down processes including appropriate changes to equipment design and configuration


The Ideal Candidate:

  • B.S in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering. A Master’s degree is an asset
  • 2 – 5 years of chemical plant experience with exposure to GMP environment
  • Project management background and/or experience is an asset
  • Professional Engineer designation is an asset
  • Proficient in AutoCAD/Autodesk Plant 3D
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Experience in process design for equipment/unit operations, such as reactors, centrifuges, crystallizers, filtration system, and Ion exchange system
  • Knowledge of relevant code compliance (B31.1, B31.3, ASME BPV, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
