David Aplin Group, one of Canada's Best Managed Companies, has partnered with our client to recruit an Operations Manager based in NE Calgary, Alberta.

Our client is looking for an experienced individual with an electrical or electronics engineering background with expertise in electronic cable assembly.

The Role:

  • Direct and manage staff: select, hire, train, coach, and monitor performance to ensure company performance goals are met
  • Implement company strategy
  • Prepare and implement business plan; develop operating schedule to meet sales forecast
  • Work closely with managers to ensure all goals are met
  • Develop and manage capital and operating budget; monitor expenses; approve all purchase orders 
  • Oversee management of capital projects
  • Ensure labor/management agreement is adhered to and maintain positive labor relations while monitoring disciplinary actions
  • Implement all Human Resource policies and programs
  • Establish safety goals; ensure adherence to all safety regulations
  • Implement and ensure compliance with environmental management system and all environmental regulations
  • Identify manufacturing costs for potential new products
  • Establish quality targets and oversee implementation of quality management systems
  • Lead Plant Management Team, integrating activities and assuring consistent focus
  • Represent company to local community
  • Serve as a member of the Leadership Team, participating in the development of business strategy
  • Set and maintain an environment for effective employee relationships and a sustained, motivated workforce
  • Utilize Six Sigma Methodologies for problem solving and continuous improvement

The Ideal Candidate: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent technical education
  • 5-10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with opposing opinions and capable of leading the team towards best outcome
  • Creative problem solver with high degree of analytical skills, knowledge of problem solving techniques such as, brainstorming, value stream mapping and focus on win-win solutions
  • Passionate about continuous improvement and teamwork
  • Well organized self-starter skilled in time management
  • Ability to interpret electrical, mechanical and hydraulic schematics
  • Experience working with programmable logic controller (PLC), control logic and human machine interface (HMI) is beneficial
  • Demonstrate knowledge of contracting, negotiating, and change management
