Reporting to the Commercial Manager in Lloydminster, this is an intermediate level position which is part of the merchandising team for the location. This position will be accountable for the procurement of raw materials and the marketing of finished products to achieve optimum financial results. 

The position is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with accounts, including the handling of logistics, accounting, and other customer related issues. 

Primary duties will be the origination of oilseeds, selling protein products, managing facility logistics, basic accounting, and proper management of all other customer and commercial related objectives. As an intermediate member of the merchandising team, this position requires a higher level of strategic thinking, market knowledge, and employee development than an entry-level position.

Primary Job Duties:
  • Procure canola for Lloydminster Processing Facility.
  • Service multiple farmer origination Oilseed accounts.
  • Follow and learn Oilseed Markets – advise trading activity accordingly. 
  • Manage Sales to protein accounts.
  • Understand and execute Risk Management Strategies.
  • Ensure the most cost-efficient transportation and logistics.
  • Execute rail and/or truck logistics as part of merchandising team.
  • Responsible for input on current and forward market prices and price discovery. 
  • Present the organization to producers, elevator managers and other interested parties at Industry shows and conventions. 
  • Present value-added business diversification and other potential business opportunities to management.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: 
  • University degree in Agriculture or Business (i.e. economics, finance, accounting)
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the marketing of commodities and related food, feed and/or fuel products in North America. 
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrated capacity to excel within high risk, fast-paced work environment. 
  • Proven ability to assess risk and exercise sound judgment in making decisions. 
  • Demonstrated negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the domestic & international trade.
  • Proven ability to manage effectively within a team-based work environment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with end-users, suppliers, and internal customers. 
  • Computer competent, with demonstrated ability in the use of spreadsheet, database, and word processing software. 
  • Applications within a Windows-based operating environment.
  • Individual must be committed to corporate ethics policies & safety programs. 
  • Is willing to work outside normal business hours including weekends when need be.
