David Aplin Group, one of Canada's Best Managed Companies, has partnered with our client, one of the world's leading manufacturers and marketers of resin-based household and garden consumer products to recruit a Junior Buyer for their Milton facility.

The Role:

The Junior Buyer is responsible for the purchasing of raw materials and plant supplies to support the production schedule while ensuring:

  • Purchase Order accuracy
  • Order acknowledgement tracking and management
  • Expediting, cancelling, and adjusting quantities as required
  • All issuesor shortages are communicated to scheduling &demand planning
  • The optimal purchasing decision is made based on currentdemand, availablewarehouse space, security of business(risk evaluation), and opportunities for cost savings
  • All market PO’s, Hold and Releaseor VMI programsare approved by the Purchasing Manager
  • Quote &negotiate pricing for existing and new specifications with approved suppliers or new suppliers as necessary
  • Source, quote & negotiatewith new vendors, where successful nominate vendor to Purchasing Manager for consideration for qualification
  • Ensure all suppliercontracts and terms are being followed
  • Follow all processesas described in the QualityManual- section2.05 Purchasing ControlProcedures
  • Perform other duties and special projects as required
  • Assist in implementing processes to improve department efficiency and performance
  • Support Marketing, Quality and Production in new productdevelopments and product improvements This would include but is not limitedto: Sourcing and quoting materials, working with suppliers to find lower cost alternatives, arranging for testing or technical support with suppliers
  • Initiate and monitor cost savingsand cost avoidances and drive to meet or exceed targets
  • Maintain positive relationships with vendors and internal customers
  • Communicate all specification, delivery and performance requirements to suppliers
  • Communicate and discuss all issueswith suppliers, including those reported on SCAR
  • Ensure Supplier Corrective Action Reports are completedand returned in a timely manner
  • Review reoccurring issues with suppliers and ensure an adequateaction plan is in place
  • Issue credit requests wherenecessary and ensure credits are receivedas requested
  • Complete or participate in the completion of supplier scorecards and evaluations
  • Review the completed supplierscorecards with suppliers and set an actionplan for any necessary improvements or plans for growth
  • Perform supplier visits and audits as required
The Ideal Candidate:

  • 5 + Years of working knowledge in Procurement within a manufacturing setting
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English(both written and oral)
  • Strong math, computer and analytical skills
  • Must be a strong negotiator
  • Must be organizedand have well developedtime management skills
  • Must be self-motivated and process improvement oriented
  • College or University degree
  • Certificate in Supply Chain Management or equivalent experience
  • Negotiation Skills Certificate or Training an asset
