David Aplin Group, one of Canada's Best Managed Companies, has partnered with our client, an electricity power generator and wholesale marketing company, operating over 70 power plants in three countries to recruit an Instrumentation & Controls Maintenance Technician (Power Generation) based in Sarnia, Ontario.

The Role:

  • Responsible for the repair of all electrical and controls equipment within the plant
  • Performs regular preventative and predictive maintenance checks on plant equipment
  • Troubleshoots all plant systems and submits job requests on those systems that require maintenance work
  • Maintain the units within all applicable guidelines and regulations - including emissions, efficiency, heat rate, capacity and safety
  • Maintains a complete set of maintenance records and schedules on plant equipment using computerized maintenance management system
  • Takes corrective action for all situations in which the health or safety of the staff or plant equipment is at risk
  • Strictly adheres to policies and procedures for the safe isolation of equipment and systems while performing maintenance work
  • Follows all accepted equipment maintenance procedures, and at the same time is continually seeking methods for improving the reliability of the equipment and/or systems
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of the plant systems, and updates training material as changes to the plant systems are made
  • Works a flexible work schedule which reflects the unique nature of the maintenance requirements of a combined cycle cogeneration facility
  • Is available for call-out on a scheduled basis to respond to emergency maintenance needs which effect plant availability or output
  • Work with or supervise contractors on site
  • Train and coach other members of the staff in maintenance techniques as required
  • Work with Maintenance Support Staff to maintain activities within the plant
  • Work with the Maintenance Support Staff to ensure adequate supply of spare parts are on hand
The Ideal Candidate:

  • Electrical Trade Certificate/Instrumentation Technologist Certificate - Dual trade is considered an asset
  • Experience with work management and scheduling
  • Experience with predictive and preventive maintenance techniques
  • Experience with business IT Systems - SAP experience is an asset
  • Quality Management and systems including Health and Safety Management
  • A high level of communication skills
  • Problem analysis and problem solving expertise
  • Understanding of business and financial management fundamentals
  • Ability to learn
  • Takes initiative

  • Is resilient and tenacious
  • Has a high tolerance for stress
  • Able to demonstrate the ability to work in teams and influence others
