David Aplin Group, one of Canada's Best Managed Companies, has partnered with our client to recruit for an Engineering Manager.

Reporting directly to the VP of Operations, the Engineering Manager will be responsible for a team of 12 engineers and technicians. In collaboration with your team, you will oversee work in the areas of manufacturing support, supporting tech customer service with DFM and manufacturing analysis, while providing manufacturing efficiency improvements and guidance to production. 

The Role:

  • Develop an expertise in all facets of sheet metal manufacturing functions, including internal production functions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure all customers’ expectations are met, and the customer experience is a positive one.
  • Oversee Tech/Eng dept, distribute and manage team’s workload, ensure inquiries are receiving swift and efficient responses. 
  • Manage products life cycle including prototype, development, evolution, provide DFM and support to customer service as required.
  • Perform technical duties as assigned including raw material management, fixture design and cost analysis.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of sheet metal manufacturing to internal and external partners. 
  • Understand the product and provide technical support as well as project scheduling.
  • Plan and communicate project timelines. 
  • Participate in development and improvements of all products.
  • Oversee mechanical drawings related to the new product introduction.
  • Work independently to meet all deadlines while communicating schedule setbacks in a timely fashion.
  • Oversee  root-cause analysis and appropriate interventions or corrective action to prevent recurring manufacturing issues.
  • Other duties, incidental or regular, as may be assigned by management.
The Ideal Candidate:

  • Post-secondary degree in Engineering or a related field is required.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to work autonomously.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in a similar or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of product development experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with press brakes, laser cutters and welding equipment or knowledge thereof. Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge in sheet metal and/or robotics.
  • Expert multi-tasker with the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work.
  • Ability to take a hands-on approach.
  • Proficient in GD&T.
  • Ability to implement independent judgment and make the appropriate ensuing decisions.
  • Is an advocate for best practices and creative thinking and has the ability to inspire similar values within their team.
  • Ability to identify current or potential issues and provide creative and preventative solutions.
  • Expert written and oral communication and human relations skills.
  • Ability to uphold and protect all confidentiality standards when working with sensitive materials.
  • Ability to maintain and balance a busy work schedule.

  • Excellent data entry skills.       
  • Management experience considered a strong asset.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to interpret blueprints.
