David Aplin Group, one of Canada's Best Managed Companies, has partnered with our client to recruit to recruit for a Director of Supply Chain & Contracts.

My client located in SE, Calgary is looking for an experienced Supply Chain leader who has excellent experience  in contracts, subcontracts, procurement and materials management. You will be responsible leading the supply chain team and would work on multiple/complex projects.

The Role:

  • Responsible for Contracts & Supply chain function service delivery within the business unit and act as a business partner to Operations Management
  • Participates in the development of strategic and tactical plans for the business unit and implements initiatives within contracts & supply chain function to help achieve those objectives
  • Establishes and maintains clear goals and expectations for the function
  • Supports company business development / bid proposal activities as required
  • Develops and implements staffing plans to support proposal and project requirements
  • Directs the collection of market trends to identify and implement process improvements, reduce costs, and increase utilization of resources
Prime Contractor Management & Subcontract Management
  • Directs the preparation, review and approval of source lists, bid analysis summaries, purchase orders, subcontracts, price justifications, and other procurement and materials management documents to ensure fair and ethical treatment of suppliers, protect the company's interests, and promote best value awards
  • Working with a variety of contracts, including prime contracts, subcontracts, joint venture agreements, teaming agreements, and non-disclosure agreements
  • The ability to interpret and understand client contracts to facilitate flow downs to the subcontract process
  • Balance pursuit of good contract terms with reality of business demands
  • Demonstrate creativity in reaching agreement with clients and subcontractors
 Materials Management & Procurement
  • Develops procurement and materials management policies and procedures
  • Assumes responsibility and accountability for procurement and materials management activities on the assigned project or organization
  • Establishes and implements effective procurement and materials management plans and strategies for proposals and projects
  • Assigns project procurement and materials management personnel to proposals and projects
  • Supervises the preparation of standard materials management instruments including flow-down of prime contract, obligations and risks
  • Monitors procurement and materials management progress and manages identification and timely resolution of potential problems, changes, disputes, and claims
The Ideal Candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, construction management, economics or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, training and related experience. Master’s degree in business, engineering, or construction management desirable
  • Entrants to this position generally possess extensive and diversified experience in engineering, construction, maintenance projects or operating industrial facilities performing contracts, procurement and materials management functions with 10+ years of management responsibility
  • Experienced performer with an ability to work under pressure and “think on its feet”
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships at various levels within the organization
  • Analytical, self-motivated problem solver with ability to “think outside the box” and “can do” approach
  • Ability to learn quickly and apply the knowledge to job at hand
  • Comprehensive understanding of Operations, Maintenance and Construction Contracts is required
  • Able to organize and prioritize demands, handle complex tasks, set and meet deadlines and follow-through within a fast paced environment with multiple and competing demands
  • Ability to understand project execution drivers as it pertains to contracts and supply chain and use of KPI’s to manage / improve performance
  • Continuous improvement mindset and adaptable to an evolving organization
  • Experience managing teams through situational leadership
