On their behalf, we are currently accepting applications for a Canadian Director of Logistics. This individual will Lead and develop a customer-focused team responsible for the overall coordination, direction, and administration of Operations, Distribution and Customer Logistics activities. You will work closely with Supply and Demand Planning in Canada, supporting three different divisions. Accountable for delivering customer service targets, while maintaining costs and maintaining appropriate inventory levels. Accountable for compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Health & Safety Practices, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), including the proper handling of drug products.
As Department Head, serves as a member of the Consumer and Professional Canadian Leadership Teams.
Deploys Global Supply Chain Strategies within the Canadian organization.
Establishes business objectives and formulates appropriate strategies to support those objectives, then evaluating the impact to the business.
Supports all functional leaders with information and analysis that aids in their decision making.
Develops and leverages productive internal relationships across the company to exchange knowledge, collaborate, and contribute to local, regional and global organizational and business initiatives.
Maintains integrity of leadership role, keeping credibility intact at all times.
Leads and manages the members of the Operations, Distribution & Customer Logistics department to ensure the effective development and execution of departmental and corporate plans.
Directs the Distribution, Pro-Assembly, Customer Logistics, and Returns operations ensuring service levels, cost control and quality metrics are maintained.
Leads managers in driving and executing all short and long-term strategic initiatives.
Responsible for assigning goals and objectives for staff, as well as evaluating staff performance and identifying potential; creates a continuous improvement environment.
Promotes and takes responsibility for teamwork and positive employee/labor relations by practicing effective conflict management to resolve issues.
Ensures daily Distribution operations are conducted in compliance with SAP warehouse management and inventory control processes.
Processes & Controls:
Develops, maintains, documents and communicates effective processes and controls, to ensure that internal and external requirements are met and that errors, delays and legal risks are mitigated and minimized.
Ensures that department standards, practices, and policies are up-to-date and enforced. Identifies process improvements and deficiencies and takes corrective action in a timely manner by developing and implementing best practices in all functional areas.
Works closely with other Global Supply Chain Leaders and SAP Process Owners in leading implementation of process and technology improvements, including cost, quality and safety recommendations for changes and/or improvements.
Ensures compliance with all applicable legislation. Ultimately accountable for compliance with all related Company Policies, Standard Operating Procedures, Health & Safety, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), and GMP rules, and proper handling of drug products.
Leads Managers in reviewing practices for accurate and timely quality workmanship and process flow to diagnose any potential areas needing improvement and identify and implement process improvements to increase productivity.
Ensures that department standards, practices, and policies are up-to-date and enforced. Participates with management in developing and reviewing departmental policy.
Responsible for budgeting, forecasting and reporting the departmental P&L, managing risks and opportunities throughout the year to deliver budgeted results.
Accountable for meeting business objectives through the delivery of departmental initiatives, strategies, and tactics. Responsible for departmental reporting metrics and Key Performance Indicators.
Provides guidelines and leadership to Managers in liaising with external and internal customers to resolve service issues and non-compliance penalties.
Oversees the upkeep, safety, and security of the premises and maintenance of the facility to ensure that all employees have a safe and healthy work environment in compliance with all guidelines and regulations.
Turnkey activities in Canada: Ensures implementation and monitoring of all parts of the turnkey process, including planning, inventory control, purchasing, supplier negotiations, and benchmark studies.
Quality Assurance (QA): Provides guidelines and leadership to QA Group to develop and implement procedures and resolve quality issues to ensure all products and services meet all safety and regulatory requirements of Health Canada and timely processing of rejections.
Inventory Control: Provides guidelines and leadership in the development and improvement of the returns process. Ensuring processes meet provincial and federal guidelines. Monitors and authorizes product dumps. Provides input and approves departmental budgets and inventory budgets.
Forecasting: Provides guidelines and leadership in production forecast and budget, monitoring costs and expenses, and establishing metrics and timelines. Ensures the involvement of forecasters in new product launches. Facilitates communications with US Planning to ensure timely information flow on changes happening in the Canadian market.
Plans, budgets, directs and coordinates special projects for the department.
Responsible for the planning and execution of the project priorities within the department.
Plans, consults and advises with senior management and peers in identifying, developing, and prioritizing projects supporting company goals.
The Ideal Candidate:
University degree or college diploma in a related field, plus a minimum of 10 years of management experience in a unionized Operations (manufacturing, packaging, distribution and/or turnkey) environment.
Solid understanding, gained from direct experience, of best practices in supply planning, inventory management, warehousing, distribution, and logistics.
Solid knowledge of materials management, packaging, transportation, supply chain, WHMIS, GMP, and SOP principles and practices.
Strong understanding of interrelations of customer service, quality assurance, and forecasting.
Strong financial analysis and forecasting experience.
Understanding of how SAP functionality can be used to support complex business processes.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Strong strategic thinker combined with effective planning and execution skills. Consistently takes a broad-scale, long-term view of challenges and opportunities while assessing options and implications.
Ability to anticipate, respond to and lead change, prioritizing effectively.
Exceptional organizational and time management skills to meet frequent and aggressive deadlines.
