David Aplin Group, one of Canada's Best Managed Companies, has partnered with our client to recruit for a Director of Logistics.
Our Edmonton based client is growing exponentially. They need a seasoned supply chain professional to manage their national logistics as their Director of logistics. Reporting to the VP of Operations this position is critical to the continued success of the organization as it scales. The ideal candidate is well versed in process creation, negotiating transportation contracts, and managing multiple fast paced facilities with large inbound and outbound shipments.
Developing the overall vision, strategy and objective for the logistics function and ensure effective execution of the strategy, objectives, and initiatives
Identify outbound freight and coordinate delivery in a timely manner to ensure customer and Lead team department meetings, drive cross-functional communication and provide decision making to ensure alignment with internal and external stakeholders
Be responsible and accountable for processes related to import and export shipments, management of relations with customs brokers and their dealings with company’s logistics matters
Creates procedures for logistics management to optimize production workflow and minimize cost
Participate in transport service provider selection and qualification process, manage ongoing relationships and lead quarterly business reviews
Manage the development of annual transportation budget and assess performance relative to standard cost performance based off of transportation rate and utilization metrics
Selects transportation, third party warehouse and logistics vendors and negotiate service terms with vendors
Manages all duties, customs, harmonized tariff classifications, import and export costs and tax functions, including certification and verification, drawback, and compliance with governmental agencies and regulations
Develop logistics metrics, internal analysis tools, and performance indicators for internal teams
Engage and work alongside key stakeholders to gain input and buy-in to strategy development and to influence and execute project action plans
Promote a clean, safe work environment and an atmosphere of teamwork and open communication to motivate, build morale and develop a positive attitude among employees
The Ideal Candidate:
Post-secondary degree in Business, Logistics, Operations Planning, or Project Management
7+ years' experience in Logistics with prior experience leading and mentoring a team
Proven ability to assess current state, and develop and implement effective strategies
Strong knowledge of and experience with logistics solutions in Canada and internationally
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to drive results
Proficient Computer skills with preference in experience in SAP or other ERP Systems, Microsoft Office Suite
