The Canadian Light Source (CLS) is a national research facility, one of the largest science projects in our country’s history, producing the brightest light in Canada—millions of times brighter than even the sun—used by more than 1,000 scientists from around the world every year in ground-breaking health, agricultural, environment, and advanced materials research.
Chief Financial Officer
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Financial Officer has overall responsibility for strategic direction and leadership of the Financial, Quality, Risk Management, Human Resources, Systems and Technology, and Administrative services functions. The incumbent will work in collaboration with the CEO and Executive Management team to ensure systems, processes, and personnel in the Finance & Corporate Services division are aligned with the strategic direction and facility-wide initiatives. This includes establishing long-range goals, strategies, policies and procedures, approvals and authorities, and overall corporate protocols to maintain relations and responsibilities to funding partners and other stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will bring:
A Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a CPA designation
10+ years’ experience in finance/accounting, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a senior leadership role
Superior leadership, negotiation, relationship building and communications skills
Proven sound business judgment and overall financial acumen as well as effective strategic, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Experience managing in a unionized environment
Familiarity with non-profits would be considered an asset
