David Aplin Group, one of Canada's Best Managed Companies, has partnered with our client to recruit an Assistant Controller based in Winnipeg, MB.

The Role:
  • Establish and implement operating plans that support the strategic plan and senior management objectives
  • Promote an environment that supports best practices, high standards, and innovation
  • Promote system and process improvements that enhance value from systems, tools and team members skills
Performance Measurement:
  • Ensure appropriate department standards, metrics and a reporting mechanism are developed and implemented
  • Ensure achievement of operating plans and budgets
  • Accountable for the output of staff through the setting of context, performance targets and staff accountability expectations
  • Oversee Payroll function and ensure that variations and errors are minimized and corrected promptly, and high customer service and response levels are measured, achieved and maintained
  • Manage General Accounting services, including financial statements and reporting, reconciliations, closing balances, tracking of capital projects and investments, internal controls and audits
  • Ensure best practices in customer service standards are monitored and maintained; monitor and report on compliance with internal controls
  • Review all relevant policies for consistency with internal controls, legislative and regulatory compliance, and customer requirements
  • Ensure all relevant monthly account reconciliations are completed
  • Assist with and oversee monthly preparation of financial statements and review annual tax return
  • Oversee external and internal audits as required

The Ideal Candidate:
  • B.A. or Business Administration degree (MBA preferred) from a recognized institution
  • A professional accounting designation i.e. CA, CMA, CGA
  • 8-10 years of related accounting and financial experience
  • Demonstrated business experience in financial reporting, financial statements, reconciliations, general accounting processes and fiduciary requirements
  • 2 - 5 years in progressive management roles within a financial services function
  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communications, and ability to liaise with internal and external departments
  • Working knowledge of computerized accounting systems and software applications, with an aptitude for learning new computer applications quickly
