Our client, a growing professional services organization operating at the intersection of legal and corporate services, is seeking a hands-on Senior Accountant / Finance Manager to join their finance team in Halifax on a 4–4.5 month contract.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being deeply involved in day-to-day financial operations while also acting as a trusted partner and backup to the CFO. The successful candidate will be comfortable rolling up their sleeves to manage core accounting functions such as bill payments, payroll support, reconciliations, and month-end reporting, while helping ensure the finance team runs smoothly during a busy operational period.

- Contract length: 4–4.5 months (Target start: March)
- Compensation: $65,000–$85,000 annualized (approx. $45/hour)
- Hybrid work environment – 3-4 days per week in the Halifax office
- Standard hours: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM

Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring financial processes run smoothly
- Oversee accounts payable, including invoice processing and bill payments
- Assist with payroll processing and payroll-related reporting as needed
- Maintain the general ledger and prepare month-end financial statements
- Perform bank reconciliations and support cash flow management
- Act as a key contact for banking matters and ensure service offices are adequately funded
- Prepare and submit HST rebates
- Support year-end financial reporting, tax forms, and audit preparation
- Perform trust accounting where required
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities
- Work closely with the CFO as a day-to-day operational partner and backup
Qualifications
- 5–8 years of accounting experience, ideally in a hands-on operational finance role
- Experience managing AP, reconciliations, payroll support, and month-end reporting
- Comfortable working in a hands-on role where both transactional and reporting tasks are required
- Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting and financial statements
- Experience in professional services or legal environments is an asset but not required
- Proficiency with Sage, Microsoft Excel, and financial systems
- Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable managing multiple priorities
