We have partnered with our client, in search of a strong communications leader with a passion for storytelling, cultural advocacy, and governance. The Director of Communications and Story Telling will lead the charge in shaping and amplifying the company’s narrative, driving engagement, and supporting self-governance initiatives through innovative communication strategies.** Please note - this is an in-office position in Saskatoon**.

The Opportunity:
As a key leader, you will oversee a high-performing communications and story telling team, foster strong stakeholder relationships, and ensure the company’s mission, programs, and services are effectively shared with communities, partners, and the broader public.

The successful candidate will be an agile, forward-thinking leader with deep cultural awareness and an understanding of the company’s self-governance journey.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Communications
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive communication strategy that aligns with the company’s mission, vision, and self-governance objectives.
  • Lead a team of communications professionals, fostering collaboration, excellence, and cultural sensitivity in all messaging.
  • Oversee crisis communication efforts and provide strategic counsel to senior leadership.
  • Ensure seamless communication between the company’s leadership, the council and the legislative assembly.
Stakeholder & Media Relations
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, media outlets, government officials, Indigenous leaders, and key stakeholders.
  • Enhance the company’s presence through proactive media relations and engagement strategies.
  • Advocate for the company’s interests by ensuring clear, impactful, and culturally relevant messaging.
 Program & Community Engagement
  • Develop communication initiatives that promote the company’s programs, services, and governance priorities.
  • Drive storytelling initiatives that highlight the company’s heritage, cultural revitalization, and the Nation’s path to self-governance.
  • Support change management efforts to ensure effective stakeholder engagement during organizational transitions.
What You Bring:
  •  10+ years of strategic communications experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects in fast-paced, high-impact environments.
  • Strong understanding of the company’s path to self-governance
  • Demonstrated experience working with culturally sensitive communications and Indigenous communities.
  • Expertise in media relations, stakeholder engagement, digital communications, and crisis management.
  •  A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field. A minor/background in Indigenous Studies is an asset 
  • Knowledge of the company’s programs, services, and their community impact is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to pivot quickly due to competing priorities and evolving strategies
